Duke University Job Description Job Description Research Proposal Associate III (2322) Occupational Summary The RPA III will demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of the Duke Clinical Research Institute (DCRI), including the capability to clearly articulate the role of an academic research organization (ARO), the role of the faculty, how we distinguish DCRI from our competitors, and the value DCRI brings to our customers. The RPA III will support national and international client relationships for clinical studies across all therapeutic areas by developing and facilitating the proposal/grant process for specific clients/sponsors. Responsibilities will include budget and pricing development, proposal writing, contract negotiations, and conduct of client presentations. The RPA III will also be a integral contributor to the development of the sales strategy for each opportunity. ** NOTE: This position may have an opportunity to work remotely. Grant Development
* Work with the Principal Investigator (PI) and project personnel to submit grant applications/renewals to the sponsoring institution.
* Upon grant award, update grant budgets to match actual award notice. * Assist PI and study team in the development of the Research Plan (i.e., proposal) that includes a clear and executable operational plan. (Refer to the description under "Proposals and Proposal Revision" for the expected responsibilities associated with the development of the Research Plan development.) Changes-in-Scope

MINIMUM HIRING SPECIFICATIONS Education Bachelor's Degree in business, science or other related discipline. Experience Five years experience in research and development arena (pharmaceutical company, CRO, etc.), with preferred experience in business development, proposal generation, review, and/or sponsor negotiations. Excellent oral and written communication skills Excellent presentation and public speaking skills Excellent interpersonal skills Analytical, problem solving, and negotiation skills Knowledge of clinical trials process Familiarity with NIH grant procedures Willingness to travel (approximately 10% travel) Excellent organizational, planning and prioritization skills Willingness to attend training courses and trade shows (writing/editing courses, grants management courses, excel courses, industry trade shows, etc.). Anticipated Pay Range: Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $77,898.00 to USD $124,598.00.
