Wieland is hiring a Trailer Mechanic. The Trailer Mechanic will be responsible for inspecting, troubleshooting, diagnosing, and performing repairs, preventative maintenance, and safety inspections on equipment and trailers. Follow all Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), company, and any other Federal, State, or Local regulations. This role is located in Granite City, IL, and will be fully on-site.

Hourly Pay Range: $25 - $32/hr

Work Schedule: 6 am - 2:30 pm

Pay Schedule: Weekly

Responsibilities

Trailer Mechanic Responsibilities:

    Perform all necessary repairs and preventative maintenance on trailers to ensure optimal performance and safety.
  • Understanding of DOT regulations, trailer compliance requirements, and Annual Vehicle Inspection (AVI) standards.
  • Metal fabrication knowledge/experience.
  • Hydraulic system experience.
  • Conducts all safety inspections of equipment and prepares safety documents required by FMCSA, company, and any other Federal, State, or Local regulations.
  • Perform both major and minor component replacements, including suspension and wheel end maintenance.
  • Carry out welding and cutting operations in support of trailer repair and fabrication.
  • Identify equipment issues on trailers that could cause a safety issue or equipment failure.
  • Perform routine inspection of work area to ensure proper housekeeping.
  • Follow Daily Procedures & Protocols as set forth in job orientations and trainings.
  • Have your own tools to complete assigned tasks.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Trailer Mechanic Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of hazards and safety precautions common to FMCSA Competency/Qualification.
  • CDL Preferred (knowledge of standard manual truck)
  • Valid Driver's License and insurance
  • Ability to perform manual work requiring periods of extensive physical exertion and potential exposure to adverse weather conditions.
  • Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
  • Reach with hands and arms.
  • Ability to stand, kneel, bend, sit, and use stairs or a ladder.
  • Sufficient education to read documents and/or written directives, make appropriate arithmetic equations, and complete written documentation.

  • Stand for extended periods, walk, and reach with hands or arms.
  • Use hands and fingers to handle, touch, or manipulate items.
  • Stoop, reach, kneel, twist, and walk while handling cases of product.
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds
