Government Affairs Officer - Hybrid

The Government Affairs Officer is responsible for supporting the execution of state and federal advocacy programs for Providence St. Joseph Health (PSJH) and its affiliates. This includes identifying, communicating with and coordinating between external associations and internal engagement partners, and managing systems and structures of the Government Affairs team. This position will also engage in communications and counsel with internal/external audiences, on priority policy issues consistent with PSJH's strategic direction.

Essential functions of this role include:



  • Develops system and structures to support and track the execution of department strategic priorities and objectives.
  • Supports and tracks the engagement of Providence stakeholders serving in leadership positions with key state and local organizations through facilitated knowledge-sharing across regions and departments, research on emerging policy issues, and written engagement reports..
  • Maintains customer-focused tools to support the work of the Government Affairs Department including: bill tracking tools, talking points, self-service functions (including online resources), presentations, one-pagers and direct guidance.
  • Assists in the compilation, research and development of regular reporting to internal boards and customer groups, manages content expert group engagement and tracking.
  • Working in coordination with the Director, Government Affairs, develops and executes engagement strategy to deepen connection between government affairs, and community ministry, foundation boards and local stakeholders.
  • Coordinates with Advocacy & Social Responsibility Division leaders and teams to maximize collaboration, information sharing and cross-functional effectiveness.
  • Engages in direct advocacy and community wide relationship building on behalf of the organization
  • Supports advocacy visits to local ministries and at the state and federal levels
  • Serves as a strategic partner to local leadership in conjunction with the California state advocacy team
  • Builds local relationships to support local advocacy issues
  • Supports the development of and execution of caregiver engagement and education outreach related to advocacy.
  • Leads and coordinates the development of bi-annual advocacy agenda and annual priorities.
  • Oversees filing of state lobbying disclosures on a quarterly basis.

Required Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's Degree Public Policy, Political Science, Business, Communications, Government, or Health Administration.
  • 6 or more years of work experience in legislative or regulatory activities, health administration or legal research; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in governmental processes and governmental relations.

Posted are the minimum and the maximum wage rates on the wage range for this position. The successful candidate's placement on the wage range for this position will be determined based upon relevant job experience and other applicable factors. These amounts are the base pay range; additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities.
