Summary: The Senior National Director, Field Medical is a field-based leadership role responsible for building, leading, and scaling the US field medical team supporting Apellis' growing ophthalmology or rare disease portfolio. This leader will provide strategic direction and support while ensuring effective execution through the MSL team. Operating with a high degree of autonomy, the Senior Director will collaborate closely with Medical Affairs and cross-functional partners to ensure aligned scientific engagement, , and the integration of key clinical insights into medical strategy.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Coach, train, mentor and manage MSL performance to ensure execution of strategic and tactical goals
- Ensure robust onboarding, continuous development, and ongoing scientific acumen across the team
- Oversee the creation and implementation of Medical Engagement Plans across therapeutic areas and indications, ensuring alignment with launch and lifecycle strategies
- Develop and lead national field medical strategy aligned with broader medical and business objectives
- Partner cross-functionally with therapeutic area leads and other key stakeholders to guide MSLs execution and stakeholder engagement strategy
- Conduct regular field visits to observe MSL engagements and provide in-field coaching and development
- Drive operational excellence by monitoring MSL team focus, resource allocation, and territory execution aligned with business needs and priorities
- Establish and monitor clear key performance indicators (KPIs) and field performance metrics in collaboration with Medical Affairs leadership
- Support identification, prioritization, and strategic engagement planning for KOLs and other key external stakeholders
- Lead insight generation and synthesis efforts, ensuring insights are effectively shared to inform medical, clinical, and commercial strategies
Represent field medical at key scientific congresses and internal planning forums; lead post-congress follow up and insight dissemination Travel Requirements: Education: Pay Information: Base salary for this role will consider multiple factors, including but not limited to, candidate qualifications, relevant expertise, specialized skills, and industry experience in complement-targeted therapies. The targeted base salary range for this position is $205,000-$307,000. This range represents the base salary only and reflects Apellis' commitment to competitive compensation within the biopharmaceutical industry. The final salary offered may vary based on individual qualifications, business needs, and current market conditions.
