USC WorkWell Center (WorkWell), the University's long-standing workforce wellness program, is seeking an Associate Counselor to join its clinical team. The Associate Counselor provides counseling and assessment services to USC faculty and staff under the supervision of a licensed mental health professional. This role supports WorkWell's comprehensive employee assistance services, including counseling, assessment, referral, crisis response, and psychoeducational programming.

The Associate Counselor works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary clinical team and contributes to a supportive, confidential, and high-quality service environment that promotes employee well-being and resilience.

Job Accountabilities

  • Provides counseling services to employees under the supervision of a Licensed Therapist, including intake, assessment, and treatment interventions
  • Responds to requests for service by providing information, assessment support, and referrals in collaboration with licensed clinical staff
  • Assists in the development and implementation of treatment plans; monitors client progress and adjusts interventions in consultation with a Licensed Therapist
  • Maintains accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with university policies, legal requirements, and professional standards
  • Participates in case consultation, in-service education, and training activities to enhance clinical skills and job performance
  • Maintains compliance with departmental policies, quality assurance standards, safety procedures, and regulatory requirements
  • Supports psychoeducational workshops, orientations, and outreach activities for faculty and staff, as assigned
  • Upholds confidentiality, mandated reporting obligations, and ethical standards in all aspects of clinical practice

In the event of an emergency, the employee holding this position is required to report to duty in accordance with the University's Emergency Operations Plan and/or the department's emergency response and recovery plans.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Master's degree in psychology, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, or a related mental health field
  • Eligibility for associate-level licensure through the California Board of Behavioral Sciences or Board of Psychology
  • At least one year of experience providing counseling or clinical services in a supervised setting
  • Experience working with adult populations; experience in higher education or employee assistance settings preferred
  • Strong knowledge of clinical safety practices, confidentiality standards, and mandated reporting requirements
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and clinical documentation skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced clinical environment where crisis response may be required
  • Commitment to professional development and ethical clinical practice

This position works under the supervision of a licensed mental health professional and may assist with training or supporting students or trainees, as appropriate. The hourly rate range for this position is $24.07 - $30.00.
