Purpose of Position

Develop detailed design drawings from engineering data with minimal supervision, providing supporting analysis and documentation as required.

Tasks and Responsibilities

The following duties are essential to the successful and satisfactory performance of this job. Other duties may be assigned based on departmental needs.

  • Successfully completes assigned tasks of the job; applies and enhances knowledge and skills while utilizing sound engineering principles.
  • Capable of modifying existing designs and contributing to original design concepts with senior teammate guidance.
  • Design tasks include creating 2D layouts or 3D models from sketches and engineering data to determine size, shape and arrangement of components; also defining part requirements including dimensions, tolerances, finishes, material and clearance.
  • Produce installation, assembly and detail drawings from 2D layouts or 3D models.
  • Perform analysis to support design as required to complete assigned tasks or resolve technical issues.
  • Provide technical support to manufacturing throughout all phases of training equipment production including fabrication, assembly, test, and installation.
  • Capable of handling multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Demonstrate initiative and independent thought in developing potential solutions to problems using available tools and information.
  • Perform within department budget and schedules.
  • Approach problem solving from the point of view of what is the best overall solution.
  • Travel as required.
Minimum Education

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent degree.

Minimum Experience

2+ years of related experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • 2D drafting package and 3D modeling package, preferably SolidWorks. Microsoft Office Suite. Stress or vibrational analysis (FEA) would be an advantage.
  • Standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers and fax machines.
  • Fluency in English, through both verbal and written communications; Able to read, analyze, and interpret general business documents, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
  • Able to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
  • Able to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients and customers.
  • Able to work with mathematical concepts used in solving static, dynamic, and stress analysis.
  • Able to apply advanced mathematical concepts using arithmetic, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus and their applications.
  • Knowledge of the principles of solving complex problems using computational methods.
  • Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form; Able to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Valid Driver's License, where applicable.

While performing the duties of the job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
