Position Summary

The University of New Mexico, Office of the University Controller, also known as Financial Services, located on Main Campus is responsible for all central accounting functions for the University.

It is the responsibility of Financial Services to ensure compliance with all financial policies, rules, and regulations adopted by the University or imposed by external agencies, state and federal audit requirements, and generally accepted accounting practices. Financial Services maintains the official financial records of the University.

Within Financial Services, the Contract & Grant Accounting (CGA) department has an exciting opportunity for a Student Assistant.

Contract and Grant Accounting provides the University of New Mexico's research community with professional expertise and quality customer service in the management of external funding. We strive to provide guidance and support to ensure compliance with UNM policy, state law, federal regulations and agency terms and conditions of funding. CGA constantly searches for process improvements and efficiencies to improve our work experience. We also encourage teamwork in meeting our mission as well as support professional development.

Key responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Assist with billing including printing, pulling documentation, reviewing, and emailing invoices
  • Update award information into Streamlyne system
  • Assist with award closeout activities including tuition reviews, F&A calculations, and documentation retrieval
  • Assist with main email inbox monitoring
  • Mail and process refund checks
  • Assist with daily processing of checks received
  • Other duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications

Preferences should be supported in application/resume.

  • Successful passing of an intermediate accounting course
  • Experience working in an office setting
  • Effective time management skills to prioritize multiple ongoing work tasks to meet deadlines
  • Experience communicating effectively at different levels of organization, both verbally and in writing
  • Experience using MS Excel and MS Word
  • Experience with computer software and/or the adaptability to learn
  • Must be available to work on site, Monday - Friday (school schedule will determine work hours)
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent work ethic
  • Attention to detail
  • Punctual (arrive to work on time, meet deadlines, etc.)
  • Enjoy working with a diverse group of individuals
  • Passion to learn about UNM's Main Campus Financial Services organization
