CASUAL Marine HVAC Assistant
Location: Cape May, NJ Hourly Rate: $23.75 Opening Date: March 31, 2026 Closing Date: Until Filled I. I. POSITION SUMMARY Assist in diagnosing and repairing HVAC mechanical equipment on board Authority vessels. Has basic knowledge of HVAC equipment repair and maintenance. Follows established safety practices. II. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES * Assist HVAC Mechanic with overhaul / repair HVAC mechanical equipment and auxiliary equipment * Repair pumps, motors, hydraulic systems and components and pneumatic systems and components * Inspect and clean hot water boilers * Repair / maintain vacuum, and sewage system components * Maintain clean and safe work area and assist other skilled employees in their craft * Maintains various HVAC/plumbing preventative maintenance programs and protocols related to Authority assets, equipment, and facilities * Ability to provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers III. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES * Must have a basic knowledge of HVAC mechanical systems repair * Familiarity in the use of all types of hand tools including measuring devices * Ability to perform heavy, physical labor * Able to understand and interpret mechanical blueprints and technical manuals * Must be familiar with safety precautions involved in this field IV. REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE * Must be 18 years of age or older * Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent or one (1) year of relevant experience in commercial HVAC/plumbing field; three (3) years preferred * Vocational training preferred including successful completion of a federally approved plumbing/HVACR apprenticeship program V. LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, AND/OR CERTIFICATES * Valid driver's license * Must be in process of acquiring EPA Section 608 Universal Technician Certification * Must obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) and Merchant Mariner's Credential within six (6) months VI. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS * Subject to background investigation and pre-employment physical including drug test * Delaware River and Bay Authority requires all employees to have direct deposit with a financial institution or enroll in the payroll card program to receive their biweekly pay * Willing and able to work in confined spaces and may be required to use a respirator. * Willing to work on high ladders, or aloft or over the side of the vessel if needed. * Willing and able to sail on vessel in licensed capacity as needed * Must be willing and available for duty at such hours, day or night, as may be required in order to maintain continuous operation of this facility ************************ If you are interested in applying for this position please complete the on-line application at www.drba.net.
