The Clinical Decision Support (CDS) Engineering team, aunit withintheOptum InsightTechnologyorganization is responsible for building commercial productshelping payers and providerswith administrative and clinician focusedCDS solutions. We are seeking aseniorengineerwho can bring deep expertise across software, data, and AI/ML disciplinesto enhance existing CDSsolutionsas well asthe development of exciting new products. CDS is an area that truly touches payers, providers,as well as members and one where you can have a huge impact on improving the healthcare system for everyone.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance of software components and services across the product lifecycle
  • Use AI-assisted coding tools (e.g., Copilot, Codex) to accelerate development, generate boilerplate, improve test coverage, and explore implementation options
  • Review and refine AI-generated and human-written code to ensure correctness, security, maintainability, and alignment with team standards
  • Contribute to scalable, reliable, and maintainable solutions aligned with established architecture and engineering standards
  • Write clean, secure, well-documented, and testable code following best practices and coding standards
  • Troubleshoot and resolve moderately complex engineering issues; escalate or partner with senior engineers on highly complex or ambiguous problems
  • Participate in code reviews and incorporate feedback, ensuring quality whether code is human- or AI-generated
  • Collaborate with product managers, architects, and cross-functional partners to deliver working software increments
  • Learn and apply responsible AI-assisted development practices, including effective prompting and validation techniques; share learnings with the team
  • Identify and implement improvements to system performance, reliability, and security within your area of ownership
  • Contribute to developer productivity and operational efficiency through automation and appropriate use of AI tooling

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED (or higher)

  • 4+ years of development experience with one or more languages such as Java, .NET, or Python

  • 3+ years of professional software engineering experience

  • 2+ years of experience with either front-end technologies (such as ReactJS, Angular, or TypeScript) OR data engineering / Business Intelligence (BI) development

  • 2+ years of hands-on experience with Azure Cloud services (storage, networking, container-based and/or serverless processing)

  • Intermediate level of knowledge in AI/ML concepts and experience using AI-enabled tools or libraries in software development

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience with relational databases (SQL)

  • Experience leveraging AI Tooling (Codex, Claude Code, Copilot) to accelerate development

  • Experience with software development methodologies such as Agile and Scrum

  • Knowledge of containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes

  • Strong understanding of software development best practices, software testing, and design patterns

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Exposure to the healthcare industry (payer/provider, clinical, claims, or related domains)

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment

  • Interest in helping define and follow best practices for AI-assisted development

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $72,800 to $130,000 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
