Surgical Coordinator / Surgical Scheduler Location: Silver Spring, MD 20904 Onsite - Free Parking Available Contract-to-Hire \| Full-Time Shift: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM About the Role TEKsystems is seeking an experienced Surgical Coordinator / Surgical Scheduler to support physicians with end-to-end surgical scheduling and coordination. This role requires hands-on surgical scheduling experience and a strong understanding of insurance authorizations and pre-certifications. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented medical professional who thrives in a fast-paced surgical office environment and plays a critical role in ensuring patients are fully prepared for surgery without delays. Key Responsibilities * Independently manage full-cycle surgical scheduling based on physician orders * Reserve operating room dates and times with surgical facilities * Coordinate anesthesia, surgical assistants, vendors, and any required equipment * Communicate all surgery details to patients, including date, time, location, and preparation instructions * Review patient medical history and medications impacting surgical clearance * Schedule and coordinate all required pre-operative testing (labs, imaging, clearances) * Obtain and track insurance authorizations and pre-certifications using accurate CPT and ICD-10 codes * Review payer policies to ensure compliance and prevent denials or delays * Serve as a liaison between patients, insurance providers, physicians, and surgical facilities * Ensure all required documentation (orders, consents, H&Ps, authorizations, pathology reports) is completed, signed, and scanned into the EMR * Manage OR block releases according to facility policy * Follow up post-surgery to confirm reports, pathology results, and return visits are scheduled Required Qualifications * High School Diploma or equivalent * Minimum 1-3 years of hands-on surgical scheduling experience in a medical office (required) * Direct experience obtaining insurance authorizations and pre-certifications (required) * Strong working knowledge of medical and surgical terminology * Proven ability to work independently while coordinating multiple surgical cases * Excellent verbal and written communication skills * Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and EMR systems * Ability to multitask, prioritize deadlines, and maintain accuracy in a high-volume environment Preferred Experience * Surgical scheduling within oncology, urology, or specialty practices * Experience with global period management and payer-specific surgical policies Compensation & Employment Details * Pay Rate: $21.00 - $25.00/hour (based on experience) * Placement Type: Contract-to-Hire (6 months) * Expected Start Date: April 13, 2026 Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Rockville, MD.
