Job Description
Primary Purpose Under general supervision, conducts and schedules asset-backed and proprietary energy transactions in real time to optimize the profitability of the merchant generation portfolio and contribute to power desk revenue. Analyzes and executes opportunities in multiple ISO markets including virtual bids, point-to-points, up-to-congestion and/or other transaction types.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Collaborates with team members to analyze market trends and adjust trading strategies as needed.
- Ensures compliance with federal and regulatory requirements and internal risk guidelines.
- Executes short-term power trades to support the organization's market position and reliability obligations.
- Maintains accurate logs of market activity and tracks trade performance.
- Monitors real-time market conditions, system loads, and pricing signals to identify trading opportunities.
- Provides operational support during real-time events or emergencies, escalating issues to senior traders when appropriate.
- Supports scheduling and dispatch of power transactions in coordination with grid operators and counterparties.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Education
- Typically requires a 4 year degree in a relevant field, or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
Experience
- Typically requires 5 years of related experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Data Analysis - Measuring and managing organization data, identifying methodological best practices and conducting statistical analyses.
- Deal Structuring - Prioritizing the objectives of a merger or acquisition and ensuring that the top-priority objectives of all parties involved are satisfied, along with considering the weight of risk each party must bear.
- Energy Market Analysis - Examination and evaluation of national and international regulated markets that deal specifically with the trade and supply of energy.
- Energy Trading Strategy - The strategic approach taken to trading in energy market in order to take advantage of fluctuations in price and volume when buying and selling energy commodities.
- Energy Transaction Management - Managing the purchase or sale of a specified quantity of energy at a known transaction point or through an organized market.
- Pricing Structures - Defines the pricing setup for products or services, including the core price points plus discounts, offers, and strategy.
- Regulatory Compliance - Ensuring an organization's adherence to laws, regulations, guidelines and specifications relevant to its business processes.
- Risk Management - Identifies, evaluates and manages risks by developing and implementing risk management strategies, frameworks, policies, procedures and practices.
- Scenario Planning - Scenario planning focuses on an outlook for the future. It is a method with which organizations can form an idea of possible future scenarios and how these may affect their strategic objectives.
- Trading Position Management - Management of exposure to risk when trading by aligning positions within intended trading strategies and risk parameters.
Work Schedule
HYBRID: Work a combination of onsite and remote days each week, typically 4 days per week onsite.
