The Research Operations function within The US Oncology Network partners with community oncology practices, Practice Management leaders, and strategic research organizations (including Sarah Cannon Research Institute - SCRI) to support and scale clinical research programs across the Network.

The Senior Director, Research Operations & Growth will play a critical role in driving research growth by partnering with Network leadership, physicians, operators, and strategic partners. This leader will scale clinical research programs, address complex crossfunctional challenges, and implement sustainable operating models that enable longterm growth, compliance, and adoption across a highly matrixed organization.

This role requires comfort leading through ambiguity, influencing without authority, and aligning diverse stakeholders with competing priorities. Responsibilities include oversight of research finance operations-specifically billing guidance, education, and compliance-as well as research technology transformation and standardization.

The ideal candidate is strategic, confident, and collaborative, with a consulting mindset and a passion for building scalable solutions. They bring strong executive communication skills, a handson approach to problem solving, and a track record of leading enterprise change that delivers measurable impact.

Key Responsibilities
  • Partner with Research Operations, SCRI, Practice Management, and Network leadership to standardize, optimize, and scale clinical research operations across community oncology practices
  • Lead research billing and research technology functions, establishing standardized processes, education, and controls to mitigate financial and operational risk
  • Influence and lead change across a matrixed environment by building trust, resolving resistance, and driving adoption of new operating models
  • Serve as an integrator across teams to translate strategy into executable plans, proactively identifying risks, dependencies, and tradeoffs
  • Act as a credible advocate for the Network's clinical research community, elevating operational realities and enabling growth priorities with senior leadership and partners
  • Define success metrics and outcomes for research operations initiatives, ensuring measurable impact on scalability, compliance, and practice experience
  • Develop and mentor highperforming teams, contributing to leadership growth and longterm organizational capability
  • Perform additional duties as needed to support company objectives

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, healthcare, clinical operations, change management, or related field required
  • MBA or other graduate degree preferred

Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in strategy, operations, transformation, healthcare, or consulting
  • Strongly preferred: prior management consulting or internal consulting experience, particularly supporting healthcare or life sciences organizations

Core Capabilities

  • Proven experience leading enterprisescale change in ambiguous, matrixed environments
  • Strong strategic and analytical problemsolving skills, with the ability to structure complex issues and drive executable recommendations
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including executiveready storytelling and influence
  • Experience with program management, strategic planning, and crossfunctional execution
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook; Tableau or Power BI experience a plus
  • Familiarity with clinical research operations, research billing, and research technology systems preferred

Travel

  • Approximately 20%

The pay range shown below is aligned with McKesson's pay philosophy, and pay will always be compliant with any applicable regulations. $174,100 - $290,100
