Part - Time

What You Can Expect

ENGIE collects real-time data from thousands of process points across the University of Iowa campus using utility and building automation systems. This data is critical to ensuring the reliable and efficient operation of the University's utility infrastructure, which provides steam, electricity, chilled water, water, and sewer services to the campus. ENGIE leverages both real-time and historical data to drive operational efficiency, identify performance improvements, and generate cost savings.

The majority of this data is captured through the PI System software, which connects directly to control systems at the campus Power Plant, Chilled Water Plants, Water Plant, and Electrical Distribution Systems, as well as real-time metering across approximately 90 campus buildings. This data feeds real-time graphical dashboards and displays and is archived for long-term analysis, reporting, and decision support.

This position will be working in the Energy Control Center in USB.

What You'll Do

  • Query utility process data using PI System tools and services such as PI Vision, PI System Explorer, PI Datalink, and PI RTQP Engine
  • Query and visualize relational data using SQL Server Management Studio, Power BI, and other tools
  • Design, develop, and deploy custom dashboards and reports that interact with the PI System, relational databases, and other systems
  • Assist Operations, Engineering, or Management with gathering data and putting together trends to support studies, projects, or operational needs
  • Assist with reporting and support ongoing utility performance projects with data analysis and application development

What You'll Bring

  • Current enrollment at the University of Iowa pursuing a degree in Business Analytics, Informatics, Computer Science or related field
  • Coursework or hands-on experience in data visualization, relational databases, or other database technologies
  • Eagerness to learn the PI System Software Suite and apply it in a professional setting
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel, including formulas, pivot tables, and charts
  • A collaborative mindset, strong curiosity, and eagerness to learn in a professional, team based environment

Additional Details

  • This is a daily on-site position based at the Energy Control Center on the University of Iowa campus in Iowa City, Iowa
  • The internship begins June 1, 2026, and continues through August 28, 2026, and requires a minimum of up to 40 hours per week for the summer session
  • Interns must be enrolled in good standing at the commencement of the intern semester
  • Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies
