Location

This is a onsite position and may be assigned to any Consumers Energy Service Center located throughout Michigan's lower Peninsula. The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify).

General Summary of Job Responsibilities

The Senior Manager of Engineering is responsible for overseeing the work of multiple engineering teams in the planning, coordination, and execution of various engineering projects. The incumbent serves as the liaison between engineering front-line leaders, senior leadership, and stakeholders. This role collaborates with senior leaders to develop and implement the company's engineering strategy. The Senior Manager is responsible for the development and implementation of engineering processes and best practices for Consumers, as well as for budgeting and forecasting engineering costs for their teams.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities




  • Develop and execute the longterm Industrial & Systems Engineering strategy aligned to business growth, operational goals, and transformation priorities.
  • Translate business needs into engineered systems, process improvements, and scalable operating models.
  • Partner crossfunctionally with Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, Finance, Quality, IT, and HR to drive enterpriselevel improvements.
  • Lead optimization of resourcing strategies to maintain consistent service delivery across normal operations, seasonal peaks, and emergency response
  • Assess longterm operational demand patterns to determine resource sufficiency strategies
  • Align team structure and capability with emerging technologies, shifting regulatory expectations, and future system needs
  • Lead RTO analysis to evaluate resourcing strategies against capacity demands
  • Develop tools and models that evaluate resource sufficiency, operational load, and future support needs, enabling informed decisions on scalability to meet organizational goals
  • Evaluate and select vendors for engineering supplies and equipment.
  • Negotiate research contracts and agreements with outside contractors.
  • Investigate complaints about engineering products or services and take corrective action.
  • Develop budgets, schedules, and performance standards for engineering teams.
  • Serve as the engineering department's primary point of contact for all project-related inquiries, concerns, and requests.
  • Establish and monitor systems and procedures for measuring progress and for problem-solving with supervisors, project managers, engineers, and customers.
  • Confer with project personnel to outline work plans and assign duties, responsibilities, and scope of authority.
  • Direct and coordinate activities of projects through subordinate leadership personnel to ensure projects progress on schedule and within the prescribed budget.
  • Review project proposals and plans to determine time frames, funding limitations, procedures for accomplishing projects, staffing requirements, and allotment of available resources to various phases of projects.
  • Oversee all engineering projects from conception to completion, ensuring adherence to budget, schedule, and quality standards.
  • Other additional duties as necessary.

Education and Experience




  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program with seven (7) or more years of experience with project management within a regulatory environment.


OR



  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from a non-ABET accredited program plus a Professional Engineering license with seven (7) or more years of experience with project management within a regulatory environment.
