Responsibilities

Rolling Hills Hospital is seeking an empathetic, detailoriented Financial Counselor (PRN) to join our patientfocused team. In this vital role, you will help patients and families navigate the financial side of healthcare by completing assessments, educating them on benefits, and ensuring financial arrangements are in place-ideally before discharge. Your work will directly support our mission of delivering exceptional, patient-centered care.
Key Responsibilities

As a Financial Counselor, you will:

  • Conduct thorough financial assessments to determine patients' ability to pay.
  • Collect deposits and develop fair, manageable payment plans with patients and guarantors.
  • Identify funding opportunities and assist indigent patients with TennCare applications.
  • Educate patients, parents, and guarantors on insurance coverage, claims, and self-pay obligations.
  • Calculate accurate thirdparty and selfpay liabilities for inpatient and outpatient services.
  • Secure upfront deposits to help reduce outstanding balances.
  • Set up monthly payment arrangements when full payment is not possible.
  • Follow up on incomplete documentation, patient balances, coordination of benefits forms, and additional financial responsibility issues.
  • Prioritize follow-up on self-pay accounts, verify and update billing information, and collaborate with Business Office management on accounts eligible for collections.
  • Track post-discharge charity applications, assist with documentation, and communicate status updates to management.
  • Support other financial counseling needs as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 2 years of hospital admissions or collections experience (psychiatric setting preferred).
  • Strong communication skills-written, verbal, and interpersonal.
  • Ability to perform accurate financial calculations and explain them clearly.
  • Proficiency with computers and billing/insurance systems.
  • Ability to prioritize, stay organized, and work well in a fastpaced environment.
  • Professionalism, patience, and strong customer service skills.
