Role:

Under general supervision, but following established policies and procedures, performs a variety of duties as delegated by the Associate Vice President (AVP) of Mortgage Lending, Senior Vice President (SVP) of Lending and the Chief Lending Officer (Management). Assists the AVP of Mortgage Lending with organizing, planning and directing the Credit Union's Mortgage Lending function. Directs the activities of licensed mortgage loan officers. Responsible for periodic review of new and existing mortgage products to ensure competitiveness in the market place while guarding the safety and soundness of the loan portfolio and ensure we are offering competitive loan products. Is accountable for the development, application, and ongoing review of the Credit Union's Mortgage loan originators. Reviews and make recommendations for approvals and denials of loan applications. Will be responsible for weekly sales meeting and monitoring their mortgage pipelines. Performs duties and responsibilities in accordance with The Apple Way principles of Team Up, Serve with Purpose, Challenge Yourself and Own It. Remains cognizant of and adheres to credit union policies and procedures, and regulations pertaining to the Bank Secrecy Act. May perform other Administrative, Managerial or Lending duties as assigned by the AVP of Mortgage Lending.


Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Reviews Mortgage loans originated online for compliance with lending objectives, policies, and procedures. Also recommends approving or rejecting loans exceeding the credit authority of the Loan Originator handling the account. Acts as a Licensed Mortgage Loan Originator for the Credit Union. Interviews applicants, gathers and evaluates financial and related credit terms where necessary.
  • Supervises, directs and controls the activities of the licensed mortgage loan originators. Ensures a trained, motivated and professional staff capable of providing efficient and effective Mortgage Lending services to internal and external members. Interviews, schedules, trains, assigns work, establishes performance expectations and monitors results of staff. Recommends the discipline and/or discharge of subordinates while maintaining required personnel documentation. Coaches and counsels staff as necessary. Prepares lending activity reports for departmental use. This includes all monthly pipeline reports for each loan originator
  • Onboards and reviews new loan applications prior to assigning to the Loan Originators. Manages the mortgage pipeline of each loan originator and works with the Mortgage Operations Manager to ensure each loan gets the appropriate service standards. Follows up with the loan originators, closers and processor to ensure a speedy and accurate closing for each loan. Answer questions from underwriters and processors and/or members and give guidance in difficult situations. Gives opinions and suggestions on better ways to improve the processing and origination policies and procedures affecting flow management. Reviews mortgage loan policies and procedures and recommends improvement to management when necessary. Reviews rate changes on a daily basis to ensure Apple remains competitive.
  • Develops and administers staff member training on Mortgage loan and related products. Serves as Credit Union subject-matter expert on Mortgage loan products. Represents mortgage department in a professional and knowledgeable manner by presenting updates to AFCU management and senior executives at monthly MEETs. Educates AFCU employees on mortgage products and processes by presenting at bi-monthly Lending Academy.
  • Conducts monthly member education seminars. Researches mortgage and home buying current trends in an effort to create relevant educational seminars/webinars.
    Cultivate relationships with local real estate agents to promote AFCU's mortgage products and services. Ongoing meetings with real estate community to learn about new products and services that AFCU might consider implementing while also generating feedback from members using our services.
  • Work with marketing department to identify areas of opportunity in promoting mortgage LO Team, products and services. This includes maintaining vendor products such as Intuvo and LO specific websites.
    Oversee and facilitate mortgage Point of Sale (POS) and Loan Origination System (LOS) to ensure proper functionality. Identify areas of streamlining process and improving efficiencies that ultimately improve the member's experience throughout the mortgage process while also increasing the productivity of the loan originators.
  • Responsible for all aspects of AFCU's HomeAdvantage real estate program. Works directly with HomeAdvantage vendor and multiple AFCU departments (i.e., Marketing, Retail Delivery, MSC) to ensure proper member awareness of program is generated. Trains mortgage loan staff on cross-selling opportunities that significantly increase new money mortgage pull-through rates.
  • Work directly with AFCU committees and volunteer efforts. Support committees and efforts by ensuring mortgage LO's are directly participating.

  • Experience:

Eight to ten years of similar or related experience.

Education:

Four-year Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance or Accounting required.

Other Skills:

Demonstrated knowledge of real estate lending policies, procedures, regulations and legislation.
Ability to concentrate in a multi-task environment, PC proficient - including, but not limited to, MS Office Suite, spreadsheets, and other industry-appropriate software
