Overview

Verathonis looking for an Upstream Product Manager to join our Urology Business Unit in Bothell, WA. Verathon is a global medical device company and market leader in airway management and urology. Our GlideScope and BFlex platforms, together with the BladderScan portfolio, address meaningful unmet clinical needs and raise the standard of care for patients worldwide.

The Upstream Product Manager (internally titled Product Planner III) will play a central role in shaping the next generation of urology endoscopes. In close partnership with Engineering and cross-functional teams, you will define, develop, and deliver differentiated products from early concept through launch readiness. This is a development-facing role responsible for translating validated clinical and market insights into clear product requirements supported by strong business cases. AI-enabled capabilities and human-centered design principles are embedded in how we innovate.

Success in this role is measured by your ability to identify high-impact unmet needs, convert insight into executable product definitions, and lead development programs with rigor, alignment, and strategic clarity.



Responsibilities

    Develop deep understanding of global urology care environments through structured Voice-of-Customer initiatives and active Key Opinion Leader engagement.
  • Identify and define new product opportunities by synthesizing clinical insight, workflow dynamics, competitive landscape, and business strategy.
  • Translate validated unmet needs into clear, prioritized product requirements and differentiated value propositions.
  • Lead the development of robust business cases in partnership with Finance and commercial leaders, including market modeling, pricing strategy, and return analysis.
  • Serve as the commercial lead within cross-functional core teams, ensuring alignment of scope, schedule, and cost discipline at each Product Development Process stage gate.
  • Apply structured innovation methodologies, including Design Thinking and BioDesign, to guide concept generation, validation, and refinement.
  • Integrate AI-enabled capabilities and data-driven thinking into product concepts where clinically and commercially justified.
  • Partner with Human Factors Engineering to plan and execute formative usability testing throughout development.
  • Ensure the complete product solution - including claims, packaging, labeling, service model, and user experience - supports validated customer and stakeholder needs.
  • Collaborate with Regulatory and Quality to ensure product requirements and intended use are clearly defined and aligned to global compliance standards.
  • Monitor competitive activity, industry trends, and emerging technologies to inform portfolio strategy and future development priorities.
  • Support transition to downstream marketing by ensuring launch readiness through clear positioning, pricing recommendations, and value articulation


Qualifications

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree (MBA, MS, or equivalent) preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in medical device product development, upstream product management, or related roles within a regulated industry.
  • Demonstrated experience partnering with Engineering through new product development from concept through launch readiness.
  • Experience translating clinical or customer insights into clear product requirements and differentiated value propositions.
  • Proven ability to build and defend business cases, including market assessment, pricing strategy, and financial modeling.
  • Experience operating within structured product development processes and stage-gate environments.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and cross-functional leadership skills.
  • Domestic and international travel is required 20-25% of the time.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience in urology, endoscopy or adjacent clinical markets.
  • Experience with capital equipment and/or single-use medical device portfolios.
  • Exposure to AI-enabled, software-integrated, or digitally connected medical devices.
  • Experience applying structured innovation methodologies such as Design Thinking, BioDesign, Jobs-To-Be-Done.

Salary range - $118,288 - $152,661 (Compensation will vary based on skills, experience and location; it is not typical to be hired at or above the top of the salary range).

Full-time employees who are not on a commission plan are eligible for Verathon's annual bonus plan based on company and individual performance.
