Responsibilities

New York Blood Center Enterprises (NYBCe) is seeking a highly experienced, strategic Director of Physical Security to oversee the security operations for our national portfolio of properties. This leadership role will be responsible for establishing and enforcing comprehensive security, emergency management, and fire safety protocols, as well as overseeing the day-to-day physical security needs of all enterprise locations. The Director will provide oversight of both in-house and third-party security staff, manage budgeting and capital planning for security staffing, equipment, and IT needs, and ensure the highest standards of safety and security across all locations.

Security Protocols Development & Implementation:

    Develop and implement enterprise-wide physical security policies, standards, and procedures across the national portfolio of properties.
  • Establish governance for access control, badging, visitor management, and guard force operations, ensuring consistency and effectiveness across all locations.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations regarding security and safety.
  • Conduct regular security risk assessments and vulnerability analyses, updating protocols and controls to address emerging threats.

Emergency Management & Fire Safety:

  • Establish and manage comprehensive emergency management programs, including response strategies for a range of security and safety incidents.
  • Oversee the development and execution of fire safety, life safety, and active threat response protocols, including regular drills and exercises.
  • Coordinate with local police, fire departments, and emergency services to ensure effective crisis response.
  • Lead response to significant security incidents and crises, including escalation, investigation, and after-action reporting.

Staff Oversight & Management:

  • Provide leadership and oversight of in-house security teams and contracted guard services, including vendor selection, contract management, and performance standards.
  • Develop and implement training programs covering physical security systems, incident response, and customer-facing responsibilities.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and foster a culture of accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement.

Budgeting & Capital Planning:

  • Develop and manage the physical security operating and capital budgets, including staffing, systems, and infrastructure investments.
  • Plan and oversee capital expenditures related to security systems (e.g., CCTV, access control, alarms, perimeter protection).
  • Monitor financial performance and implement cost optimization strategies while maintaining security effectiveness.

Technology & Equipment Management:

  • Oversee the design, deployment, integration, and maintenance of physical security systems, including surveillance (CCTV), access control, intrusion alarms, and duress systems.
  • Ensure effective administration of ID credentialing and badging systems, including issuance, access provisioning, and periodic audits.
  • Drive adoption of modern, scalable security technologies aligned with organizational risk and operational needs.

Stakeholder Communication & Collaboration:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for physical security operations and strategy with NYBCe personnel, property management teams, tenants, and external partners.
  • Collaborate with Facilities, IT, HR, and Legal to ensure integrated security governance and policy alignment.
  • Foster strong relationships with law enforcement agencies, emergency responders, and relevant external stakeholders.

Compliance & Reporting:

  • Ensure all physical security programs and systems meet regulatory requirements and internal standards.
  • Establish and monitor compliance with access control, visitor management, and guard force protocols through audits and reporting.
  • Prepare and present executive-level reports on security operations, risks, incidents, and program enhancements.


Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Security Management, Criminal Justice, Homeland Security, Emergency Management, Business Administration (with a focus in security management), or a related field.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in physical or corporate security, with at least 5 years in a leadership role overseeing multi-site security operations, guard services, and enterprise physical security systems.
  • Proven experience in emergency management, fire safety, and risk assessment.

Licenses/Certification:

  • Professional certification preferred (e.g., Certified Protection Professional/CPP), Physical Security Professional/PSP, Professional Certified Investigator/PCI).

  • Valid Driver's License is required.

Travel:

  • Ability to travel to NYBCe locations.

Location:

  • Candidates must be within commuting distance of one of our offices: Rye, NY, Kansas City, MO, St. Paul, MN, Providence, RI, Christiana, DE.

Knowledge:

  • Proficiency with security technology and equipment.
  • Knowledge of a variety of software applications (Microsoft Office Suite).

Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to effectively supervise both in-house and third-party security staff.
  • Strong budgeting and financial management skills.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with various stakeholders.
  • Capability to handle emergency situations with composure and decisiveness.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, both in writing and verbally, to others in one-on-one.
  • Ability to interact with individuals at all levels of the organization and customers in a helpful, courteous and friendly manner while demonstrating sensitivity to and respect for diverse populations.

Any combination of education, training and experience equivalent to the requirements listed above that has supplied the necessary knowledge, skills and experience to perform the essential functions of the job.

For applicants who will perform this position in New York City or Westchester County, the proposed annual salary is $170,000.00p/yr. to $180,000.00p/yr. For applicants who will perform this position outside of New York City or Westchester County, salary will reflect local market rates and be commensurate with the applicant's skills, job-related knowledge, and experience.
