Job Description

Vanir is seeking a Project Director with proven leadership quality and strong communication skills who can build on our continued success in the education sector. To date, Vanir has delivered more than 1,000 projects for over 100 school districts, totaling more than $6 billion in modernization and new construction cost. Our education sector projects have included master planning, needs assessments, constructability review, project scheduling and budgeting, bidding, award, on-site construction management and project closeout for projects throughout the state of WA.

Responsibilities will include leading team(s) and providing the planning, coordination and direction for project and construction management activities during all phases of projects to ensure they are on time, within budget and schedule, cost controlled, and project performance to ensure the requirements for the contract. Maintain management and project facilitation for successful completion and compliance with contractual, owner and Vanir requirements. This position will also be expected to identify lead capture planning for new opportunities.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

The primary duties of a successful Project Director will focus on providing the planning, coordination, and direction for an Education Sector Bond program. Duties include ensuring the program and individual projects are on budget and schedule, and the design fits the client's requirements. This position will support design and construction and will be responsible for client interface, scope, schedule, and budget tasks as senior leadership in the field. This position will report to the Senior Program Manager.

    Lead planning, coordination and execution efforts in accordance with the district's program policies and procedures
  • Employee development, including coaching, mentoring, supervisory and training techniques
  • Supervise project team and ensures quality services consistent with Vanir procedures, client goals, and contract responsibilities on areas of safety, performance, and project staff
  • Develop an implementation plan and master schedule that reflects the priorities of the district
  • Responsible for timely completion of all deliverables required by the client
  • Financial reporting to the client and the bond oversight committee
  • Develop and review contract documents
  • Report and collaborate with client's senior management team on all project matters
  • Develop and implement a program quality management system
  • Document and report all program/project data accurately and in a timely manner
  • Manage program controls, cost, schedule, performance activities, and procedures required by the client
  • Track all program and project level status and provide internal and external management reports related to scheduling, cost control, staffing, billing and other related contract requirements
  • Create and present program and project data clearly to multiple internal and external stakeholder groups
  • Identify, track and lead other business opportunities
  • Identify risk and create risk mitigation plans successfully
  • Develop recommended actions and assist in resolving disputes relative to design and construction
  • Provide management of program logistics, organization, safety, and manpower utilization
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure program and project success
  • Ensure contractors, architect, and engineer will adhere to contractual requirements on areas of safety, performance, project staff, and equipment

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or Architecture is required
  • 10+ years of experience providing project / program management services working with public agencies on Education projects
  • 8+ years project management experience, including senior level oversight and staff supervision
  • Experience in managing the full construction of education construction project: including pre-construction, design phases, and oversight of constructability reviews is required
  • Experience mentoring teams and staff, fostering collaboration and effective performance in team-based environments
  • Applied experience leading or participating in procurement processes, including RFPs, RFQs, PRC approval processes, and bid evaluations
  • Advanced knowledge and application of master planning, A/E solicitation, project development, design-phase management, construction estimating, cost, project controls/scheduling, documentation, engineering/construction principles, contracts and delivery methods are required
  • Thorough understanding of contracts, documents, drawings, and specifications and applied experience in the areas of accounting, cost, administrative, and personnel interaction in professional settings are required
  • Applied experience guiding and delivering alternative delivery methods
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Effective negotiation skills (especially change orders).
  • Experience in application of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is preferred

Preferred Certificates or Licenses

  • PMP certification or willingness to obtain.
  • Experience working with school districts on bond planning
  • CMAA - Construction Manager in Training (CMIT) or Certified Construction Manager (CCM)
  • DBIA - Design Build Associate, or Professional certification
  • Registered Architect or Professional Engineer
