Join our dynamic team as a Temporary Summer Intern, where you'll gain valuable hands-on experience in a professional setting.

Illinois CancerCare has a student summer intern position available in the Imaging department. Interested students will work up to 20 hours per week for 6 to 8 weeks. Our summer internship program is designed to give high school, undergraduate and medical school students a chance to gain experience in a healthcare facility.

Pay: $15.00/hr.

Responsibilities

What You'll Do

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist licensed Radiologic Technologists with patient preparation, including room setup and basic positioning support (under supervision).
  • Escort patients to and from imaging areas and ensure comfort and safety.
  • Perform equipment setup and room turnover between exams (cleaning tables, restocking supplies)
  • Support workflow efficiency by preparing exam rooms and organizing imaging accessories.
  • Assist with patient identification and screening processes under direction (verifying orders, basic checklists-not clinical judgment).
  • Help manage image processing tasks as permitted (sending images, documenting completion, quality checks under supervision).
  • Maintain infection control, safety, and HIPAA standards at all times.
  • Provide general department support, including answering phones, directing patients, and performing clerical tasks as needed.
  • Observe imaging procedures to gain handson exposure to radiology operations and patient care.

Qualifications

Special Physical Requirements

  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
  • Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours.
  • Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.
  • Requires frequent bending, reaching, squatting, stooping.

Safety Considerations/Typical Working Conditions

  • The employee has limited exposure to toxic substance and is expected to be familiar with the dangers and proper handling of such.
  • The employee is exposed to communicable diseases and other conditions common to the clinical environment.
  • Safety policies and good health practices are to be understood and observed.
  • Work is performed in an office environment with frequent contact with staff and patients.
  • Work may be repetitious, and in a high-stress environment.
  • Contact may involve dealing with angry and/or upset people.
