DESCRIPTION

The Associate Director of Nursing, Infusion Services (ADON) provides strategic, operational, and clinical leadership for ambulatory infusion services across a large, multi-site academic healthcare system. This leader is responsible for advancing high-quality, patient-centered oncology and specialty infusion care while ensuring operational excellence, regulatory compliance, workforce engagement, fiscal stewardship, and alignment with organizational priorities.

The ADON partners closely with physicians, pharmacy, nursing leadership, operations, finance, quality, and multidisciplinary teams to support safe, efficient, and innovative infusion care delivery across diverse clinical environments. This role promotes evidence-based practice, workforce development, patient safety, and exceptional patient experience while supporting growth, access, and strategic initiatives across the continuum of care.

This role is instrumental in leading teams through organizational growth, operational redesign, technology implementation, and evolving models of care delivery within a complex academic healthcare environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Management:
* Fosters a culture of accountability, collaboration, professional growth, and continuous improvement.
* Oversees the daily operations of the infusion service departments, ensuring efficient and effective service delivery.
* Provides direct leadership and mentorship to nurse managers, supervisors, educators, and frontline teams.
* Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to enhance patient care and service delivery.
* Promotes shared governance, evidence-based practice, and nursing excellence.

Quality and Safety Oversight:
* Ensure adherence to clinical protocols and best practices in infusion therapy.
* Monitor patient outcomes and implement quality improvement initiatives.
* Address and resolve any clinical issues or patient concerns promptly.

Staff Development and Performance Management
* Ensure provision of ongoing education and professional development opportunities to enhance staff competence and confidence.
* Promote a supportive work environment that encourages staff retention and satisfaction.

Financial Management:
* Manage the departmental budgets, including forecasting and resource allocation.
* Analyze financial performance and implement strategies to optimize efficiency and reduce costs.

Regulatory Compliance:
* Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, accreditation standards, and organizational policies.
* Prepare for and participate in regulatory inspections and audits.

Patient and Community Engagement:
* Develop and maintain strong relationships with patients, families, and community partners.
* Oversight of patient satisfaction scores, including likelihood to recommend.

Collaboration & Academic Mission
* Partners with interdisciplinary leaders to advance organizational goals and improve care delivery.
* Supports the academic mission through participation in research, innovation, education, and evidence-based practice initiatives.
* Represents infusion services in organizational committees, leadership councils, and strategic planning efforts.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN).

  • Registered Nurse in the State of California.

  • Eight or more years of relevant experience, including progressive nurse leadership roles.

  • Six or more years of oncology experience.

  • Four or more years of experience overseeing infusion center operations.

  • Strong hospital management experience, with progressive and in-depth expertise in patient care services. Knowledge of hospital/ clinic operations in a hospital or medical center setting; knowledge of appropriate professional standards for the department and team.

  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills to foster and promote an environment for effective communication and collaborative decision making across multiple units and disciplines.

  • Excellent leadership, fiscal and operations management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, management and staff from all disciplines. Ability to create and maintain a goal-oriented climate of teamwork, collaboration and consistent achievement of objectives.

  • Strong knowledge of relevant healthcare information technology and patient care workflows and processes.

  • Strong knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements, as well as related legislative, accreditation, licensing and compliance environments.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Advanced degree in nursing or relevant area (MSN, MHA, etc.)

  • Certification in relevant area

  • Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN)

  • Ten or more years of oncology experience involving progressive nurse leadership roles

  • Current UC San Diego Health employee

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $168,800 - $341,200 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $80.84 - $163.41

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
