Purpose of the Job

The Benefits Administrator supports the daily operations of HR Benefits with primary responsibility for benefits administration, HRIS benefits management, compliance, and wellness programs. This role assists the Manager of Benefits and Payroll in carrying out benefits programs, policies, and initiatives established at the senior level. Responsibilities include administering benefits through Workday, managing wellness initiatives, conducting benefits audits, and partnering with management to deliver HR services aligned with business objectives.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Partners with employees and management to communicate various HR policies, procedures, laws, standards, best practices, and government regulations.

  • Complies with federal, state, and local employment law by studying new and existing legislation, anticipating new requirements, enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed actions.

  • Proactively drives HR strategy within the organization as aligned with business goals, including supporting mergers and acquisitions through benefits integration, due diligence, and benefits-related transition activities

  • Assists managers and employees' staff with varying types of HR questions regarding topics such as leave, FMLA, remediation, policies, investigations, etc.

  • Administers Leave of Absence (LOA), FMLA along with Short-term and Long-term disability programs, ensuring compliance with State and federal regulations.

  • Computes monthly insurance carrier invoices and works with the Accounting Department to ensure timely payment; audits carrier billing and eligibility data regularly to ensure accuracy.

  • Provides leave and benefit counsel to managers and employees consistent with Truliant policies.

  • Ensures the efficient organization and accuracy of HR files. Maintains records and files in accordance with state and federal requirements.

  • Serves as the primary point of contact for employees, retirees, and third-party administrators regarding benefit plan administration and issue resolution. Ensures compliance with all employee benefit programs, including medical, dental, vision, retirement plans, flexible spending accounts, retiree benefits, and Affordable Care Act (ACA) requirements

  • Manages benefits administration within the Workday HRIS platform, including employee enrollments, qualifying life event changes, dependent verification, benefit eligibility audits, and carrier file integrations. Ensures timely and accurate processing of benefit transactions through employee self-service and administrative workflows.

  • Conducts annual and periodic audits of benefit plans, employee enrollments, dependent eligibility, carrier billing, HRIS data integrity, and compliance-related records to ensure accuracy and regulatory compliance.

  • Works with carriers and third-party administrators to administer and resolve Workers' Compensation claims.

  • Assist with ACA compliance activities, including eligibility tracking, measurement and stability period administration, and annual Form 1095-C reporting in partnership with ADP.

  • Conducts benefits administration for retirees and new hires, including onboarding, enrollment, and benefits orientation

  • Participates in annual insurance renewal and collaboration of open enrollment process; performs annual benefits premium analysis and presents recommendations to Manager.

  • Administers and manages all components of the company Wellness Program, including tobacco cessation and tobacco-use compliance initiatives, wellness incentives, employee engagement activities, and related reporting

  • Maintains benefit-related reports, metrics, and documentation to support decision-making, compliance requirements, and continuous process improvement.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

Acts as leader of Truliant's Wellness Committee and Truliant's Gym Committee. Assists with other tasks and projects as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong verbal and written communication, interpersonal, coaching, and customer service skills.

  • Knowledge of employee benefits, HR best practices, employment laws, and regulatory compliance.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.

  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word; Workday HRIS experience preferred.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.

  • Flexible and adaptable in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to work effectively in an office environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Occasional standing, walking, bending, and stooping required

  • Must be able to sit at a desk for long periods of time and use a computer

  • Must be able to moderately lift or move up to 5 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 10 pounds

Education and Background

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required

  • 3-5 years previous human resources experience required, including FMLA administration; 5-7 years preferred

  • PHR (Professional Human Resources) or SPHR (Senior Professional Human Resources) preferred
