About the role

Purpose

Are you ready to be empowered to create your career path? Bring your desire for learning and operational mindset to our team as an Electrical and Instrument Technician (E&I Technician) Apprentice. The apprenticeship program is a 16-20 week program with Reworld, a leading sustainable materials management company.

While in the program, you will develop in-depth technical expertise through extensive hands-on training at a Technical Training Center in Tampa, FL (a total of 8 weeks), an on-line training curriculum, and on-the-job training at the Alexandria Facility. This is a paid apprenticeship program; apprentices are eligible for travel and expense reimbursement.

Upon completing all program requirements, participants are prepared to step into a full-time Electrical and Instrument Technician position at our Alexandria Facility. We invite you to apply and discuss your career roadmap with us.

Summary

Learning will be varied based on in-person classroom instruction, computer-based training, and hands-on training while under the supervision of a dedicated field trainer or shift supervisor. Under general maintenance supervision, the E&I Tech Apprentice will assist in basic electrical and electronic work in the maintenance of motors, control centers, and electrical fixtures in support of the entire facility operation, maintaining operation of the entire plant in compliance with established production schedules and plant requirements, in conjunction with National and Local Electrical Codes.

Upon graduation, the E&I Technician will work safely as part of a small team to maintain all phases of electrical switchgear (both high and low voltage) as well as all electrical equipment throughout the plant. The technician must communicate well with groups or individuals to solve problems, be a self-starter, and prioritize work based on plant production requirements. This individual will work independently with minimal assistance and must understand safety procedures related to electrical equipment.

The E&I Technician will participate daily in preventative, scheduled, and corrective maintenance activities in a safe, effective, and timely manner across an electrical generation facility, including maintenance of the boilers and all associated electrical equipment (preventative, corrective, emergency, and warranty service work throughout the facility).

Key Training Dates

  • 7/6/26 - 1st week of I&E Entry Level Program starts; Week 1 all will be at the home facility
  • 7/13/26 - 1st Day of Phase 1 Instruction @ GPI Facilities
  • 8/7/26 - Last Day for Phase 1 Instruction and travel home
  • 8/10 through 9/4 - At home facility to begin work on Competency Map Requirements
  • 9/8 - 1st Day of Phase 2 Instruction
  • 10/2 - Last Day for Phase 2 Instruction and travel home
  • 10/5 - At home facility to complete Competency Map
  • 10/30/26 - Target Completion Date

Phase 1 - Hands-On Training at the Technical Training Center, Tampa, FL (Weeks 1-8)

Participants attend 8 weeks of intensive in-person classroom and hands-on instruction at Reworld's Technical Training Center (7/13/26 - 8/7/26). Travel and expense reimbursement is provided.

Phase 2 - On-Line Training & On-the-Job Training, Alexandria Facility (Weeks 9-20)

After successfully completing Phase 1, apprentices return to the Alexandria facility and are paired with a qualified E&I Technician, supervisor, or SME Trainer. On-the-job training resumes 8/10/26, with Phase 2 instruction beginning 9/8/26. Under mentorship, apprentices will:

  • Assist with installation, maintenance, preventative maintenance, repair, calibration, testing, and adjustment of mechanical, pneumatic, electrical, electronic, and other industrial equipment
  • Install, repair, and maintain power transmission lines, transformers, electrical motors, instruments, controls, and related equipment
  • Assist in inspecting, testing, adjusting, repairing, and maintaining high-voltage equipment, including generators, AC and DC motors, and all plant switchgear and related equipment
  • Assist with planning and detailing of assigned jobs using sketches, blueprints, schematics, and drawings
  • Consult with operations and technical groups on safety procedures and job hazards
  • Complete on-line training curriculum in conjunction with on-the-job activities

Key Responsibilities

Electrical Maintenance & Repair

  • Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of circuit breakers, motor control centers (MCCs), generators, transformers, electrical metering, protective relays, and related devices
  • Test and troubleshoot AC and DC electrical circuits, motors, circuit breakers, protective relays, and other related equipment
  • Install, test, and commission new electrical equipment in accordance with applicable safety standards and National/Local Electrical Codes
  • Maintain, repair, and service crane electrical controls, commercial and industrial electrical equipment, and all plant switchgear (high and low voltage)
  • Spec out, price, and install all sizes of conduit, junction boxes, wire, and related components for new projects and equipment replacement

Instrumentation & Controls

  • Calibrate, adjust, and maintain industrial instruments and control systems
  • Work with PLCs, instrumentation loops, and process control equipment
  • Interpret and utilize P&IDs, schematics, equipment manuals, and technical drawings for troubleshooting, installation, and programming

Documentation & Reporting

  • Identify repairs and document electrical equipment malfunctions accurately and thoroughly
  • Write comprehensive maintenance logs, reports, and procedure manuals
  • Conduct preventative analysis of electrical systems and recommend equipment updates
  • Access and manage work orders for corrective and preventative tasks using computer-based CMMS software
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals for technical clarification; requisition necessary parts and materials

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all safety rules and adhere to OSHA and HazMat procedures regarding the storage and handling of materials
  • Identify critical trends that may indicate potential equipment danger; accurately report equipment malfunctions to the Shift Supervisor and E&I Technician
  • Operate in compliance with established production schedules, plant requirements, and National and Local Electrical Codes
  • Assist in maintaining a clean and safe work environment; observe good safety habits at all times

To Be Qualified for This Role, You Must Possess the Following

Education & Licensing

  • Minimum High School Diploma or GED required
  • Valid Driver's License required
  • Electrical Journeyman's License or strong apprentice training experience required (or must be obtained upon program completion)

Experience

  • At least five (5) years' experience as a maintenance electrician in a power plant or comparable industrial setting is required for direct E&I Technician placement
  • Prior experience working with high-power electric systems, motor starters, PLCs, or electrical generating equipment is a plus for apprenticeship entry

Technical Knowledge

  • Crane electrical controls
  • Commercial and industrial electrical equipment
  • Motor Control Center (MCC) controls
  • P&IDs, schematics, and equipment manuals for electrical equipment installation, troubleshooting, and programming
  • AC/DC motors, circuit breakers, transformers, switchgear, generators, and protective relays
  • Windows-based PC skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook

Other Requirements

  • Must be able to communicate effectively with groups and individuals to solve operational problems
  • Must be a self-starter capable of working independently with minimal assistance and prioritizing work based on plant production requirements
  • Must be willing to be trained to operate telescoping boom lifts, scissor lifts, and other mobile equipment
  • Must be available for scheduled on-call periods, rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays; must support planned and unplanned maintenance outages which may require extensive overtime

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to wear a full-face respirator and perform physical activities while wearing it
  • Frequently ascends and descends ladders, stairs, elevated walkways, and ramps using feet, legs, hands, and arms
  • Will enter boilers with or without scaffolding to inspect and check the status of work being performed
  • Must be able to work in all plant locations under extremes of heat, cold, dust, noise, and wet or humid conditions
  • Must be capable of working at high elevations; must climb ladders and work from heights using fall protection
  • Must be able to lift heavy objects up to 50 lbs. and perform manual labor including pushing, pulling, sweeping, and shoveling
  • Position requires working near and around operating mechanical parts, mobile equipment, confined spaces, and sources of vibration
  • Periodically exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock
  • Must be capable of wearing all required personal protective equipment (PPE) including hearing protectors, respirators, and other safety gear as required
  • Facility operates 24/7, 365 days a year; must be available for scheduled on-call, weekend work, nights, or any shift to support outages and plant equipment conditions

Pay Transparency

It is expected that most qualified candidates in this location will fall within the posting range. The final salary offered for this role will be determined based on factors including, but not limited to: experience, education, geographic location, skills and competencies, travel requirements and/or union contracts (if applicable). Pay ranges are reviewed from time to time and may be modified in the future.

The pay range for the primary location of this position is: $64,059.00 - $88,215.00 . For hourly roles, this is the annualized salary. To calculate the hourly rate, divide by 2080.
