We are seeking a Combat Systems Data Technician to gather, maintain, format, compile, and manipulate technical data for multiple programs in the Undersea Warfare Domain. You will work directly with a dynamic group of staff performing a variety of critical analyses to assist in improving essential U. S. Naval capabilities. You will join a hardworking and expert team of analysts, engineers, and former warfighters in an environment that values collaboration and novel ideas. The Signal and Systems Analysis Group (KTA) provides data-driven design and analytical assessments of Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) system performance with operator in-the-loop to advance the warfighting capabilities of current and future systems. KTA is passionate about transforming DATA into operationally relevant KNOWLEDGE and is committed to a culture that prioritizes staff development and continuous innovation.

As a Combat Systems Data Technician...

  • Your primary responsibility will be to support technical data service requests to include data collection, processing, and formatting using physical media and software tools.
  • You will engage in the development of technological and procedural improvements to enhance the processing, storage and retrieval of data, while handling the data in a manner consistent with Laboratory and US Government agency requirements.
  • You will coordinate the data service requests and technological improvements across project teams, IT teams, and management in order to deliver data products that meet the requirements and end users' needs.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Have a High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Have 3+ years of relevant experience as a data technician or equivalent level of work experience and higher level education.
  • Work effectively with others and have strong verbal communication skills.
  • Are a detailed oriented, self- starter who is able to prioritize and solve problems independently.
  • Are highly skilled in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
  • Are able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...

  • Have an Associate's degree or higher.
  • Are proficient with a commercial data asset management tool.
  • Have familiarity with Linux command-line utilities and bash scripting.
  • Have knowledge of Python and/or Java computing languages for data manipulation or building data processing pipelines.
  • Have previous data technician experience at JHU/APL or a similar institution that performs classified work in support of U.S. national security
  • Are familiar with Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency (DCSA) security requirements in regards to data management.
  • Hold an active Secret security clearance.

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
