Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Business Manager I - Financial Reporting for University Finance and Administration ( UFA).

This position leads and delivers enterprisewide financial reporting for University Finance and Administration ( UFA), serving as a handson technofunctional leader with accountability for the accuracy, timeliness, and integrity of operational and financial reports. Leveraging deep expertise across core finance domains and processes, this role acts as the subject matter expert for financial reporting- including chart of accounts, general ledger, sub-ledger integrations, and reporting structures ensuring outputs accurately reflect business performance and effectively support financial decision-making. Positioned within the Financial Data Analytics and Reporting office within University Finance and Administration ( UFA), the role supports and delivers a university-wide reporting footprint across all campuses and administrative units. UFA's reporting ecosystem supports more than 2,000 Oracle ERP users and over 2,000 Tableau users, who rely on UFA-managed reports for budgeting, financial planning, HR, procurement, student finance, and campus operations. The reporting function includes a large portfolio of Oracle and Tableau reports, requiring consistent oversight, maintenance, and optimization to meet diverse operational needs.

Within this context, the Manager serves as the delivery lead for ERP and Tableau-based operational reporting, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and scalability of reporting outputs while balancing hands-on development, team leadership, and coordination with the Office of Information Technology ( OIT) and functional stakeholders.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Drives stakeholder engagement to define, prioritize, and document reporting requirements, ensuring solutions align with Oracle ERP and operational reporting capabilities and support financial reporting and operations.
  • Translates and oversees the conversion of reporting requirements into technical specifications, working closely with end-users and OIT, while independently developing advanced reporting solutions as needed.
  • Designs, develops, maintains, and troubleshoots ERP and operational financial reports using Oracle reporting tools (OTBI, BI Publisher, OAC, Smart View, FRS), Oracle SQL, and Tableau-based operational reporting, serving as a hands-on technical lead for reporting solutions.
  • Maintains and applies deep working knowledge of data flow across Oracle ERP modules, including integrations across modules (Chart of Accounts, General Ledger, Sub-ledger, Projects (PPM), Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Fixed Assets, Cash Management), ensuring consistency and accuracy in reporting outputs.
  • Owns data integrity and financial reporting accuracy across operational and financial reporting outputs, ensuring alignment with budget and accounting principles, financial structures, and institutional reporting requirements.
  • Leads analysis of financial and operational business processes to ensure reporting requirements accurately reflect business needs, transaction lifecycles, financial structures, and operational workflows, and translates them into accurate, scalable reporting solutions.
  • Manages and prioritizes incoming reporting requests using Jira/ServiceNow, directly executing high-priority and complex work, assigning and overseeing reporting deliverables produced by the reporting team, and coordinating development efforts with stakeholders, OIT, and other ODA team members to ensure timely, accurate, and consistent delivery.
  • Provides direct supervision and oversight of reporting team activities, including assigning work, setting priorities, establishing performance expectations, reviewing deliverables, and ensuring alignment with reporting standards and operational needs.
  • Guides and develops the reporting team by providing technical direction, mentoring, and performance feedback to strengthen reporting capabilities and ensure consistency and quality of reporting outputs.
  • Leads and executes report testing activities during Oracle quarterly updates, coordinating testing assignments across the reporting team and OIT to ensure continued functionality, accuracy, and minimal disruption to business operations.
  • Defines and maintains operational reporting standards and lifecycle practices, including review and rationalization of existing reports, cleanup of outdated or unused reports, and establishment of guidelines for report design, documentation, naming conventions, data definitions, folder structures, and security practices.
  • Serves as the primary escalation point for reporting errors, data issues, and access problems, troubleshooting complex issues, guiding the reporting team through resolution, and coordinating with technical teams as appropriate.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Computer Science, or a related field is required. Candidates with degrees in other disciplines must demonstrate relevant professional experience in financial reporting, ERP systems, or data analytics to meet the role's functional requirements.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience developing financial or operational reports in a complex organizational environment.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience within a finance environment, not limited to IT or systems roles.

Technical & Reporting Expertise:

  • Hands-on experience with Oracle reporting tools, including BI Publisher, Oracle Transactional
  • Business Intelligence (OTBI), Oracle Analytics Cloud (OAC), Smart View (Excel plug-in), and Oracle SQL.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL (Oracle preferred) and BI Publisher Template Builder for report development and design.

Special Conditions
  • This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement, subject to approval and operational needs.
