Play an integral role in delivering safe, high-quality electrical construction outcomes by working directly in the field where design intent meets real-world execution. As an Electrical Field Engineer, you will be a trusted technical authority on site, partnering closely with construction, engineering, and commissioning teams to resolve challenges, adapt designs to site conditions, and ensure work is executed in full alignment with project specifications, standards, and schedules.

Purpose of the role

You will be responsible for providing hands-on electrical engineering expertise during the construction phase of projects. This includes interpreting design documentation, addressing constructability and field conditions, overseeing construction activities, and ultimately validating that completed electrical work meets approved designs and regulatory requirements. Acting as a technical specialist, you will also provide guidance to site leadership and contribute to sound decision-making across multiple work fronts.

Core Responsibilities

  • You will be responsible for interpreting electrical designs, drawings, specifications, and standards, translating them into clear, actionable direction for construction teams.

  • Provide on-site engineering support to resolve design conflicts, field changes, and constructability issues while maintaining design intent and safety requirements.

  • Review and approve electrical installation work, ensuring compliance with project specifications, codes, and quality standards prior to system turnover.

  • Act as a lead electrical field engineer when appropriate, assigning work, providing technical direction, and mentoring engineers or technicians on smaller projects.

  • Coordinate closely with construction supervision, commissioning, and project management to align priorities, schedules, and technical solutions.

  • Make independent technical decisions and recommendations that may carry financial, environmental, and organizational impact, with a focus on practical, risk-aware outcomes.

  • Prepare and deliver technical reports, field instructions, presentations, and recommendations to stakeholders and management.

  • Support troubleshooting of electrical systems, tools, and processes, assisting others in resolving complex technical issues.

  • Ensure all work adheres to company policies, project procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.

What you'll bring to the role

  • A university degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline, or an equivalent trade qualification combined with advanced training and relevant experience.

  • Typically 7+ years of relevant experience with an engineering degree, or 12+ years with a trade qualification, gained through construction, field engineering, or commissioning roles.

  • Recognized technical mastery within electrical field engineering or commissioning, with the ability to consult confidently with site and project leadership.

  • Strong independent judgment and decision-making capability, balanced with an understanding of broader project and organizational impacts.

  • Proven ability to work with minimal supervision, managing priorities across multiple work fronts and interfacing effectively with other disciplines.

  • Experience providing technical guidance, assigning work, and supporting performance development of team members when required.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to inform, influence, and persuade on complex technical matters through clear documentation and presentations.

  • A strong working knowledge of field systems, processes, and tools, with the ability to troubleshoot issues and support others in their effective use.
