This is a limited, part-time (30% FTE), grant-funded position and the funding will end on May 31, 2028. Department Summary As part of our commitment to embracing the data revolution, DataX is designed to help UCLA respond to the ever-expanding role of data in society. This groundbreaking project aims to expand opportunities for students across disciplines to work with data, assist researchers in various fields to incorporate data analysis into their work, and position UCLA as a leader in exploring the interplay of fundamental data science, innovative applications and creative activity, as well as ethical and societal implications of the data revolution. Position Summary The Public Interest Technology Pathways is designed to build faculty capacity in teaching responsible AI and data literacy. The project will create and offer new scalable curriculum that can be offered across all sectors of higher education including the community colleges, the UC system and university extension. The project will create and offer professional development (PD) workshops and open educational resources to address equity gaps by equipping faculty to prepare college students for the ethical, social, and workforce challenges posed by AI and data-driven technologies. The Public Interest Technology Pathways will embed AI literacy into accessible, cross-disciplinary teaching and create scalable pathways that will reduce barriers to technology education. The Project Director is responsible for the development and delivery of the innovative curriculum. With proof of concept, the Project Director will expand the program to interested collaborating campuses and industry partners to develop a community of participants that will support and evolve the program as technologies change. The project director will be a technical leader with a high degree of knowledge in the field of AI literacy and pedagogy and will function with a high degree of autonomy. This position will be a hybrid job working both remote and onsite at the UCLA campus or other related locations as business needs dictate. Travel is required between UCLA and teaching sites across the state of California. The incumbent will report directly to the Faculty Director of DataX to achieve the milestones outline in the grant proposal for this project. The incumbent will have latitude to exercise expertise and knowledge to achieve the goals of DataX. Salary & Compensation *UCLA provides a full pay range.
