Position Summary

The Custom Project Designer executes custom design solutions by adapting standard product constructions and colorways to meet customer requirements. This role translates design intent into accurate, manufacturable specifications while supporting project delivery across the Custom Design team.

The position focuses on developing technical proficiency, delivering high-quality outputs, and collaborating with cross-functional partners to ensure alignment between design intent and production capabilities, as well as supporting customer engagement through accurate execution, responsiveness, and collaboration under guidance.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Translate customer requests into Pilot plant work instructions and production-ready design specifications.

  • Modify standard product constructions, colorways and thread-ups while maintaining product integrity.

  • Create and adjust thread-ups for sampling and production processes.

  • Leverage available components to develop precise and consistent color matches.

  • Utilize design software to create imagery using internal and customer-provided assets.

  • Review and validate design outputs (e.g., tufted samples and imagery), identifying and resolving discrepancies prior to release.

  • Support auditing of manufacturing specifications and mock-ups to ensure accuracy and consistency.

  • Collaborate with Product Development, Studio Design, Manufacturing, and Sales to ensure alignment with product capabilities.

  • Communicate design intent clearly with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Maintain yarn banks, design assets and file management standards.

  • Support customer and internal inquiries and participate in presentations or tours as needed.

  • Follow all safety, environmental, and departmental procedures, including awareness of safety documentation.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills Requirements:

  • Working knowledge of product construction and tufting basics, yarn systems and color application preferred.

  • Experience with digital design or tufting systems (e.g., Sim Center) preferred.

  • Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop or similar design software preferred.

  • Microsoft Office; AS400 knowledge preferred.

  • Ability to resolve routine design challenges using standard processes and tools.

  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on delivering accurate, high-quality work.

  • Ability to manage multiple assignments in a deadline-driven environment.

  • Effective collaboration with cross-functional partners.

  • Clear and professional communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Builds technical knowledge and design expertise.

  • Strong learning agility with the ability to develop technical and product knowledge.

Education & Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Art, Design, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

  • 1-3 years of experience in Textile, product, or related design field preferred, including exposure to color matching.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

  • Sitting for extended periods (up to 8 hours per day).

  • Use of standard office and computer equipment.

  • Occasional lifting to 20 pounds.

  • Primarily office-based with moderate exposure to manufacturing environments.

  • Fast-paced, deadline-driven workflow.

  • Hybrid work schedule: Minimum 3 days/week in office with optional work from home 2 days/week.
