THE POSITION

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Maintenance Division is looking for a motivated Electrician 2 to assist in maintaining the historic facilities at the Capitol Complex and adjacent office buildings. This position offers the chance to apply your technical skills in a setting that keeps these key facilities safe and operational to support state government operations. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports critical electrical work across multiple state buildings and ensures that essential systems operate safely and dependably. As an Electrician 2, you will perform the following duties:

  • Journeyman Electrical Duties: Plan, coordinate, perform, and be accountable for the installation and maintenance of electrical components
  • System Troubleshooting: Locate and fix power failures, shorts, and related electrical issues
  • Project Planning: Review and analyze requested location for electric vehicle (EV) charging stations; create project drawings and plans for UCC and other approvals
  • Collaborative Coordination: Plan and coordinate project efforts with other tradespersons and department personnel, attend and contribute to project planning meetings, and assist with seasonal duties
  • Equipment Use: Operate electrical testing devices and tools, erect and work from scaffolding and lifts, properly use safety equipment, and install steel conduit
  • Lead Work: Guide trainees and helpers by assigning tasks, reviewing work for accuracy, and providing assistance with apprenticeship readiness and license test preparation

Note: This position is considered essential. You will be required to report in-office during emergencies and office closings.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Six years of experience installing, repairing, and maintaining electrical systems, components, and equipment, including two years performing skilled electrical installation and repair work in commercial, industrial, or multi-unit residential structures; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes two years performing skilled electrical installation and repair work in commercial, industrial, or multi-unit residential structures.

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of a valid license as a journey-level electrician issued by the local Pennsylvania jurisdiction (City of Harrisburg).
  • This position requires possession of an active motor vehicle license.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Formal training in a high school or vocational program, apprenticeship, or post-high school technical program in the electrical trade
  • Possession of a Master's Electrician License
  • Electrical experience in a commercial or industrial setting
  • Experience reading and interpreting blueprints
  • Experience with 3 phase electrical systems
  • Experience working with voltages over 480v
  • Experience as a lead worker on an electrical project and/or job
  • Experience in snow removal with plows, snow blowers, or other snow removal equipment
  • Must be willing and able to occasionally work from ladders, scaffolding, bucket trucks, or man lifts
