The State Highway Administration's (SHA) District 2 is currently recruiting for an Administrative Assistant Executive in Kent County. This position is open to anyone who meets the minimum qualifications listed below. This is a temporary position recruitment. The resulting list of eligible candidates will be used to fill this vacancy or function only. You will need to reapply for any future recruitment conducted for this job classification.

Nature of Work: This position serves as administrative support to the District Engineer (DE) for District 2, which encompasses Cecil, Kent, Queen Anne's, Talbot, and Caroline counties. The main purpose of this position is to independently serve as coordinator for the DE and projects handled by the office. This position requires a thorough knowledge of the organization, policies, and programs under the DE's jurisdiction as well as knowledge of the DE's views and special interests. In addition, this senior administrative position ensures target dates for work of the DE's senior support staff (traffic, construction, maintenance, utilities, engineering systems, and administration) are completed as assigned. This position is also responsible for planning and implementing the organizational operations for the DE's Office and performing office management duties to maintain a continual flow of daily operations within the district. Communications are effectively managed regarding projects, programs, and associated issues. External customers served are those directly or indirectly affected by a project or initiative in the five counties comprising District 2. This includes private citizens, special interest groups, elected officials, state and local agencies, and other private and public stakeholders.

Qualifications

Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Five years of experience in secretarial work.

Notes:

1. Applicants may substitute additional secretarial or clerical experience on a year for year basis, for the required education.

2. Applicants may substitute an Associate of Arts degree with a major in Secretarial Science from an accredited college for up to two years of the required experience.

3. U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as defined under the Minimum Qualifications may be substituted for the education and experience on a year-for-year basis.


Licenses & Certifications

Candidate must possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the state of Maryland with less than four (4) points.
