What you'll do:

As the Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) you'll oversee and manage the regulatory compliance framework of Western Alliance Bank and all affiliated entities. This role ensures that the bank adheres to all applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies, thereby safeguarding the bank's integrity and reputation. The CCO leads the compliance department, collaborates with senior management, and provides strategic direction to mitigate compliance risks. You'll provide end-to-end oversight of the bank's Compliance Management System (CMS) and compliance programs, partnering with business leaders and senior executives to ensure compliance programs remain robust and functional. You'll contribute to the Bank's Risk Management efforts and second line of defense programs and provide strategic leadership to the Bank, including guidance on evolving best practices while remaining appraised of regulatory developments and adjusting compliance policies and practices accordingly. You'll manage and lead staff in the development and implementation of strategic and tactical solutions to protect and minimize compliance risk.
  • Coordinate with other senior leaders of the Bank on relevant matters such as Compliance, regulatory relations, risk, mergers and acquisitions, new products, business due diligence, and operations.
  • Participate in corporate risk committees to ensure leadership is informed of compliance posture, trends, and emerging risks and consult with lines of business and affiliates to develop and implement policies, programs, procedures and training programs that ensure bank and non-bank functions are in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Provide second-line independent oversight and guidance regarding business products, services, and processes through a compliance framework to ensure they are implemented in accordance with regulatory requirements and develop, monitor, and analyze budgetary and/or operational performance of department resources.
  • Provide compliance related advice and guidance on new and/or revised business strategies, initiatives, and projects. Offer effective risk challenge, which may include assisting businesses in assessing the compliance risks associated with new/revised strategies and recommending and/or assessing mitigation efforts to reduce risk exposure.
  • Lead and develop a team; responsible for hiring, coaching, performance management, training and development.

What you'll need:

  • 15 years of related experience in Risk Management, Regulatory Compliance or similar field.
  • Bachelor's degree in related field required; Masters or MBA in related filed preferred.
  • Previous leadership experience required.
  • Expert knowledge of related state and federal banking compliance regulations, Bank lending policies and procedures, and the Bank's products and services. Expert knowledge of applicable regulatory and legal compliance obligations, rules and regulations, industry standards and practices.
  • Expert experience, knowledge and training in all lending/operational activities and terminology.
  • Expert speaking and writing communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple deliverables in fast-paced environment and successfully execute a plan for desired results. Ability to scale and transform as demands change.
  • Must be both strategic and hands-on, with the ability to navigate between the two. Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist preferred.
  • Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager preferred.
  • May require up to 25% travel.
