Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Drug Diversion Supervisor, the Controlled Substance Analyst is responsible for the auditing of controlled substance medication use process at UC Davis Health. This includes inpatient, outpatient, ambulatory, and retail management and oversight of controlled substances across all of UC Davis Health's locations. The analyst assists pharmacy management teams with routine audits of controlled substance use, regulatory compliance, and reporting. The analyst is also responsible for coaching staff and managers on the results of audits and assisting in developing strategies to address gaps. The analyst serves as a subject matter expert for controlled substance regulations, technology, data (informatics), and business needs as they pertain to controlled substances. They assist in the design, implementation, and training of technology needs for the UC Davis controlled substances and diversion prevention program. - Bachelor's degree in related area, or equivalent experience/training
- Three (3) years of experience in a pharmacy or healthcare setting
- Experience in preparing monthly operational reports and other key performance indicators
- Experience in applying practices, principles and techniques of patient care related to Controlled Substances and Pharmacy Operations
- Ability to assess the performance of the department against business goals and plans
- Ability to work with the IT team, staff and other stakeholders to implement, develop, troubleshoot and maintain technologies
- Advanced MS Excel skills
- Creative thinking skills and ability to generate new out-of-the box ideas
- Ability to prepare presentations and educate stakeholders on specialty pharmacy and various aspects of the program
- Ability to prepare and present executive-level talking points, presentations, executive summaries and data on various projects
- Knowledge of Pharmacy Terminology
- Communication skills to effectively deliver information, in both spoken and written formats, to a variety of audiences with diverse levels of knowledge and expertise.]
- Working knowledge and skills to apply practices, principles and techniques of patient care related to Controlled Substances and Pharmacy Operations
Preferred Qualifications
- California Pharmacy Techncian License
- Certified Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT)
- Master's degree in Business Administration, Hospital Administration, Public Health, Public Administration or other related area, or equivalent experience/training
- Experience with accreditation process
- Experience managing programs
- Experience maintaining policies nad procedures
- Experience with EPIC, EPIC certification, Electronic Health Record, or pharmacy dispensing system software
- Project management experience
- Experience in Microsoft PowerPoint, Outlook, Word, Access, Visio
- Experience improvement process or Lean Six Sigma
- Ability to prepare monthly operational reports, financial summaries, and other key performance indicators to provide management data to manage department
- Ability to prepare revenue and expense projections to help in the management of current programs and provide decision support in developing new service lines
- Ability to prepare business proposals for new lines of business, additional staffing and needed capital investment
- Ability to develop marketing materials and plans and then implements to support new service lines and patient and provide outreach
- Ability to work with IT and other stakeholders to develop data warehouse and interfacing of multiple systems
- Ability to manage and plan multiple projects at once

The Department of Pharmacy is a dynamic, integral, and critical part of patient care provided by UC Davis Health. As a department of greater than 600 professional, technical, and administrative support personnel, we focus on providing patient-centered medication management that optimizes outcomes through practice, education, research, and leadership through the continuum of care. We also have the largest pharmacy residency program in the country with 46 total residents in 13 different programs.
The Department of Pharmacy offers comprehensive pharmaceutical services (unit dose, IV admixtures, clinical services, infusion pumps, and teaching) throughout the health system complex 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The pharmacy services encompass inpatient pharmacy services as well as an expansive footprint in the ambulatory care space where we have clinical pharmacists embedded within our clinics and specialty care locations. Our operational teams support the health system enterprise with three inpatient pharmacies, five outpatient pharmacies, two infusion pharmacies, a home infusion service line, and the full complement of pharmacy purchasing, stores, and distribution.
