Instructional Designer

The Kansas Child Care Training Opportunities (KCCTO) team, within the College of Health and Human Sciences, is looking to hire an Infant-Toddler Professional Development Specialist who will work as part of a team to respond to the training and professional development needs of the early childhood care and education workforce. This position will facilitate training, engage in special projects, and offer technical assistance, including coaching, consultation, and mentoring.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

• Facilitate training in online, in-person, and live virtual formats to early childhood care and education professionals, utilizing adult learning principles
• Facilitate peer-to-peer learning opportunities
• Support early childhood care and education professionals and programs in establishing and carrying out plans for professional growth and quality improvement, to include goals and action steps
• Develop and update training content
• Review and provide feedback on new and revised training content
• Inform and contribute to ongoing statewide and internal systems development
• Collaborate with internal and external partners to promote the program and carry out program activities
• Offer support to individuals seeking a Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential

Kansas Child Care Training Opportunities, Inc. (KCCTO) is a state-wide training office dedicated to providing quality, accessible, professional development opportunities to family childcare providers, childcare center staff, and other early education professionals throughout Kansas. KCCTO is a sponsored project of Kansas State University and the College of Health and Human Sciences. The mission of KCCTO is to ensure high-quality early education and care through professional development and support for those who work with and on behalf of young children. KCCTO is the current contracted agency by the Kansas Department for Children and Families (DCF) for the Infant-Toddler Specialist Network, the Early Childhood Workforce Professional Development Program, and the workforce registry, Cape.

This position is remote eligible, but candidates are required to be located within Kansas.

All employees must reside in the United States when they begin working to comply with state law. K-State is unable to provide remote or hybrid work opportunities for residents of the state of Idaho.

Frequent in-state travel (10+ days per month) will be required. Out-of-state travel to attend trainings and conferences is minimal and optional.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree
• One year of relevant experience in the early childhood field
• Valid driver's license

The degree requirement ensures candidates possess a strong foundation in learning theory, instructional design methodologies, evidence-based practices, and the analytical, ethical, and systems-level thinking essential for designing effective, accessible, and outcome-driven learning solutions. These competencies are most consistently developed and rigorously validated through the structured curriculum and applied learning experiences characteristic of a formal degree program.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's or master's degree in early childhood education or related area
• Three years of experience working with young children, at least one year with infants or toddlers
• Experience providing training to adult learners
• Experience providing technical assistance (coaching, consultation) to adult learners
• Experience working with special or underserved populations (e.g., children with developmental delays or disabilities, children or families experiencing homelessness, children in foster care, tribal members, Head Start/Early Head Start families, etc.)
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
• Bilingual
