Position Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Tax Manager to join our in-house tax department and take ownership of our partnership tax compliance and review function. This is a high-visibility, technically demanding role that combines significant hands-on preparation with oversight and review of complex Form 1065 filings, manages our outside preparer relationship, and partners with Finance and Legal to support the business through a period of significant capital investment in energy infrastructure projects.

The Tax Manager will report to the Tax Director and work within a small in-house tax department, preparing workpapers and managing outside staff and consultants. In this role, you will support the Tax Director and lead the partnership tax compliance process for both regulated and non-regulated capital-intensive energy businesses, while advising/supporting the tax planning, merger & acquisition, and other deal structuring. The right candidate is equally comfortable digging into a workpaper, writing a technical memorandum, and presenting findings to senior leadership. This role is structured as a contract-to-hire engagement - it begins as a contract position, with the opportunity to convert to a permanent, full-time role based on performance and mutual fit.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the annual preparation and review of Federal and state tax returns and estimates, performing significant hands-on preparation of the return and supporting schedules in-house while coordinating with outside advisors.
  • Prepare tax technical memoranda to document positions.
  • Perform technical tax analysis for federal and state tax-law developments - including energy tax-credit legislation and partnership guidance.
  • Prepare and oversee the annual tax provision process.
  • Support the Finance team on planning, M&A, and other deal issues.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • 7-10+ years of tax experience, with at least 4 years focused on complex multi-tier partnership / pass-through taxation.
  • Strong written communication skills, including the ability to draft clear technical memoranda.
  • Comfortable working independently in a lean in-house tax function with potential reliance on contract staff.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Big 4 or large national firm background (public accounting).
  • Energy, utilities, or infrastructure industry experience - particularly capital-intensive businesses with significant construction WIP and investment tax credit projects.
  • Familiarity with ONESOURCE (OIT/OTP) tax software.

Company Highlights:

  • For 90 years, we have nurtured creative ideas and turned them into successful realities using three core strategic pillars - creativity, excellence, and people.
  • 401K - 12% employer contribution with no vesting period (6% Match and 6% non-matching contribution)
  • Highly competitive compensation
  • Hybrid work options available for most roles
  • Five to eight weeks of PTO annually based on years of experience; eleven additional holidays per calendar year
  • All Medical/Dental/Vision benefits start day one with the company; low employee premiums
  • Education Assistance Program
  • Free covered employee parking for Dallas HQ based employees
  • Free specialty coffee bar in the Dallas HQ
  • Onsite breakfast and lunch area in the Dallas HQ
  • Commitment to the following ideals:

    • Ongoing professional development opportunities
    • An exceptional employee experience
