Job Title: Network Engineer Location(s): Salt Lake City, UT Job Summary We are seeking an experienced Network Engineer to support and maintain large-scale enterprise and carrier networks. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in routing and switching technologies, MPLS WAN environments, BGP routing, network troubleshooting, packet analysis, and incident management. This role requires hands-on experience with enterprise networking devices, network monitoring tools, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure high network availability and performance. Key Responsibilities
- Configure, troubleshoot, and maintain enterprise network infrastructure including routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, proxies, and wireless access points.
- Analyze and troubleshoot Layer 3 private IP MPLS carrier networks utilizing BGP peering.
- Support and maintain complex private BGP WAN topologies, including Customer Edge (CE) routers, routing configurations, QoS policies, and WAN connectivity.
- Perform network traffic analysis using packet captures (PCAP/Wireshark) to identify root causes and drive issues to resolution.
- Configure and troubleshoot routing protocols including:
- Monitor, analyze, and troubleshoot network performance using tools such as:
- Splunk
- HPNA
- Netdisco
- Pulse
- Synapse
- Cyrus
- Aruba Mobility Master
- Review network logs, configuration changes, traffic utilization, and system health to proactively identify and resolve issues.
- Work closely with data center technicians to diagnose and resolve hardware issues involving cables, ports, transceivers, routers, and switches.
- Coordinate with hardware vendors during live troubleshooting sessions to resolve device-related incidents.
- Monitor network alerts through TSN Workstation and manage incident response activities to ensure timely restoration of services.
- Utilize SNMP-based monitoring tools, including EMC SMARTS, to monitor network health and availability.
- Collaborate with operations, engineering, and management teams to ensure network stability and 24x7 operational support.
- Maintain documentation for network configurations, incident resolutions, and operational procedures.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of TCP/IP networking.
- Advanced experience with BGP, MPLS, OSPF, and EIGRP.
- Experience with RIP, STP, HSRP, VSS, Multicast, SNMP, and Carrier WAN circuits.
- Hands-on experience with routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, proxies, and wireless networking.
- Experience troubleshooting Layer 2 and Layer 3 network issues.
- Strong understanding of QoS, WAN routing, and MPLS technologies.
- Experience analyzing packet captures using Wireshark or similar tools.
- Familiarity with network monitoring and logging tools such as Splunk, EMC SMARTS, HPNA, Netdisco, and Aruba Mobility Master.
- Experience supporting enterprise or service provider network environments.
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and incident management skills.
- Ability to work in a 24x7 production network operations environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting large enterprise or ISP/carrier networks.
- Experience with Cisco networking technologies.
- CCNA, CCNP, or equivalent networking certification preferred.
- Experience with network automation or scripting is a plus.
- Experience working with data center operations and vendor coordination.
