What to Expect

Tesla seeks an Industrial Hygienist to manage health risks in Tesla Energy products manufacturing. In this role, you will drive engineering solutions upstream into process design, production, and long-term support and maintenance processes. You will serve as subject matter expert for EHS and engineering partners, working cross-functionally to integrate appropriate safeguards and controls into operational procedures. You will ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental health and safety requirements, as well as conformance to internal EHS policies, standards, and systems, while serving Tesla's mission.

This role is based at the Brookshire, TX campus and is part of Tesla's Environmental Health, Safety and Security (EHSS) team, with less than 10% travel supporting Energy Manufacturing.


What You'll Do
  • Complete health risk assessments and industrial hygiene analyses for manufacturing materials and processes, and report results to engineering and operations audiences
  • Provide support on the manufacturing floor and in design reviews of production equipment and facilities upgrades by conducting air and noise monitoring to drive decision-making across cross-functional teams and manage health, environmental, and operational risks
  • Produce structured reports, training, and other written communications to share industrial hygiene matters and engage the workforce, engineering, and management teams
  • Determine appropriate levels of engineering, administrative, or PPE control for chemical, physical, or noise concerns; verify control effectiveness; and lead continuous improvement initiatives as appropriate
  • Integrate industrial hygiene work into the EHS Management System and overall industrial hygiene program, partnering with affected Tesla EHS teams to ensure sustained success
  • Assist with medical surveillance compliance, including hearing and respirator fit testing, as well as management of third-party consultants, lab testing, purchase orders, and project budgets as needed
  • Support process hazard analyses and change management for new energy manufacturing processes and equipment installations

What You'll Bring
  • Degree in Industrial Hygiene, Health Physics, Engineering, Chemistry, Occupational Health & Safety or related Health discipline, or equivalent experience
  • Recent graduate with internship acceptable; 2 years' experience preferred as an industrial hygienist or IH-focused EHS professional in a manufacturing or facility design & construction setting
  • Knowledge in the art of anticipation, identification, assessment & control of chemical & physical hazards along with ability to engage stakeholders critical to sustained IH risk management
  • Experience designing or facilitating chemical or physical exposure controls through substitution or engineering methods such as using ventilation, enclosures, damping & process efficiencies
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel & success using Occupational Health databases & applications
  • Experience with operation of medical surveillance & related programs including respirator medical clearance, audiometry & substance-specific examinations
  • Capable of working in manufacturing environments on your feet with occasional stair, grade & ladder climbing as well as potential respirator & related PPE usage with less than 10% travel to support the business, collaborate on IH programs with other EHS staff & support professional development
