Job Summary: The Machinist 2, demonstrates the ability to perform basic machining tasks and repairs on heavy equipment or components in a shop environment under indirect supervision while continuing to learn and develop technical skills. Demonstrates a willingness to help in other areas when needed.

Essential Functions



  • Models, promotes, reinforces, and rewards the consistent use of HOLT's Values Based Leadership (VBL) tools, models, and processes to ensure alignment with our Vision, Values, and Mission

  • Performs basic machine tasks and repairs

  • Performs most types of machining operations to manufacture, modify, and repair machine parts, equipment, and components

  • Works as a member of a team to provide basic mechanical services that satisfies customer needs and achieves departmental goals

  • Works overtime as required by workload and customers' needs

  • Maintains all company equipment, tools, and work areas in a good, clean, and working order

  • Performs tasks under indirect supervision and often helps other Machinists on large jobs

  • Prepares service reports and any other necessary paperwork

  • Examines workpieces for defects to ensure conformance with specifications

  • Adheres to contamination control and HAZMAT rules and regulations

  • Actively participates in observations and safety meetings

  • Requires regular and punctual employee attendance

  • Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards

  • Performs other duties as assigned



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities



  • Knowledge of equipment and tools, including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance

  • Knowledge of current computer software and SIS

  • Excellent work habits, accuracy, attention to detail, and quality of work

  • Verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Ability to follow manufacturer and company installation and service guidelines to ensure quality work

  • Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, machine tools, and equipment to help perform the job

  • Ability to read ID and OD Mics and teach others

  • Ability to be self-starting and self-motivated

  • Ability to follow logical troubleshooting procedures

  • Ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands in order to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects

  • Ability to read, write, and understand information

  • Ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences

  • Must own most basic tools to perform repairs and jobs

  • Read Blueprints

  • On going Safety Training

  • First AID and CPR Training

  • Has met HDSI requirements for Machinist 1; Ability to complete HOLT's VBL Classes, model HOLT's VBL Culture, and successfully apply the tools (Learn)



Requirements

Education and Experience:


  • High school diploma or equivalent, accreditation from a technical school or an applicable skilled trades program preferred

  • At least two years required, three or more preferred

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None
Travel:

  • Up to 10% travel may be required
Physical Requirements:


  • Significant amount of time standing, walking, kneeling, crouching, stooping, climbing, and reaching

  • Constant movement and use of hands, this position requires good manual dexterity

  • Communicates with customers, service managers, and co-workers

  • Routinely reacts to visual, auditory, and other signals including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect work

  • Must be able to move objects, and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue

  • Be able to maneuver safely and work underneath equipment

  • Frequently lifts and moves materials and equipment up to 50 lbs.

  • Ascends/descends with gradual or continuous progress by oneself, using both hands and feet and climbs up and down ladders and/or equipment

Work Environment:


  • Regularly works indoors around moving mechanical parts and may be exposed to weather extremes when working outside in conditions that include inclement weather, heat, cold, and humidity

  • Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment

  • Works in an enclosed and open vehicle or equipment

  • Exposure to small quantities of chemicals, dust, steam, high-pressure water, and high-speed rotating equipment

  • Works in extremely bright or inadequate lighting

  • Exposure to high noise levels and body vibration

  • Works in confined workspaces, awkward potions, and high places

  • Exposure to minor burns, cuts, bites, or stings
