Job Description

The University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL) Department of Athletics is seeking a highly organized, collaborative, and service-oriented professional to serve as the Assistant Athletic Director for Facilities and Game Operations.

This position provides leadership and oversight for the operation, scheduling, preparation, and management of UMSL Athletics facilities and serves as the department's primary administrator for home competition and game-day operations. The Assistant Athletic Director will coordinate the people, facilities, equipment, and operational resources necessary to provide a high-quality competitive environment and an outstanding experience for UMSL student-athletes, coaches, visiting teams, officials, and spectators.

As a member of the Athletics administrative team, the Assistant Athletic Director will work collaboratively with coaches and staff as well as campus partners including facilities management, campus police, risk management, and other university departments. The position will support UMSL's commitment to competitive excellence, student-athlete well-being, fiscal responsibility, and compliance with University, Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC), and NCAA Division II policies and standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Athletic Facilities Management

* Provide day-to-day oversight of UMSL Athletics facilities and competition venues, ensuring facilities are safe, functional, clean, and prepared for practices, competitions, camps, and special events.

* Coordinate the scheduling and use of athletic facilities in collaboration with coaches, administrators, campus departments, and external users.

* Conduct regular facility inspections and identify maintenance, repair, safety, and improvement needs.

* Serve as a primary Athletics liaison with UMSL facilities personnel, grounds, custodial services, campus police, and other university partners.

* Coordinate facility setup, equipment, signage, access, storage, and operational needs.

* Develop and maintain facility operating procedures, schedules, maintenance priorities, and venue-specific plans.

* Assist Athletics leadership with planning and implementation of facility improvements, renovations, capital projects, and equipment purchases.

* Coordinate and oversee approved external uses and rentals of athletic facilities as assigned.

Game and Event Operations

* Provide leadership for the planning and execution of UMSL home athletic contests, tournaments, championships, and special events.

* Serve as the primary game administrator or designate appropriate game management personnel for home competitions.

* Develop comprehensive game-day operations plans, timelines, staffing assignments, checklists, and venue setups.

* Coordinate operational needs with coaches, sports medicine, athletic communications, marketing, officials, visiting teams, campus police, facilities personnel, and other internal and external partners.

* Recruit, hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate student and part-time game operations personnel.

* Coordinate game-day staffing in areas such as event management, ticketing, crowd control, scoreboard operations, public address, facility setup and breakdown, and other operational functions.

* Ensure competition venues are prepared in accordance with applicable NCAA Division II, GLVC, and sport-specific requirements.

* Coordinate logistics for visiting teams and officials, including arrival information, parking, locker rooms, facility access, and other competition needs.

* Serve as a problem solver and decision-maker during home events, responding effectively to weather, facility, staffing, safety, scheduling, and other operational issues.

* Coordinate post-event breakdown, facility reset, incident reporting, and follow-up.

Championships and Special Events

* Lead or assist with the planning and execution of GLVC and NCAA Division II postseason competitions hosted by UMSL.

* Coordinate championship manuals, facility requirements, staffing, team and officials' needs, signage, credentials, hospitality, and other operational responsibilities.

* Support Athletics and University special events held within athletic facilities.

* Position UMSL to successfully pursue and host conference, regional, and national championship opportunities when appropriate.

Safety, Risk Management, and Emergency Preparedness

* Assist in developing, reviewing, and implementing emergency action plans for UMSL athletic facilities and events.

* Collaborate with sports medicine, campus police, facilities personnel, University administration, and other partners regarding event safety and emergency preparedness.

* Monitor facilities and events for potential safety concerns and coordinate timely corrective action.

* Assist with severe weather planning, crowd management, evacuation procedures, and other event contingency planning.

* Maintain appropriate facility inspection, incident, and operational documentation.

Administration, Budget, and Leadership

* Manage assigned budgets related to facilities, game operations, event staffing, equipment, and other operational needs.

* Exercise responsible stewardship of University and Athletics resources and identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency.

* Supervise assigned full-time, part-time, temporary, and student personnel as appropriate.

* Develop training materials, operational manuals, checklists, and procedures to promote consistent execution across UMSL athletic events.

* Establish and maintain productive relationships with coaches, staff, student-athletes, University departments, vendors, contractors, officials, conference personnel, and community partners.

* Participate as a member of the Athletics administrative team and contribute to departmental planning, policy development, and strategic initiatives.

* Assist with camps, clinics, external events, and other departmental activities as assigned.

* Perform other duties consistent with the responsibilities of the position and the needs of UMSL Athletics.

Shift

The Assistant Athletic Director for Facilities and Game Operations must be available for a schedule that varies according to Athletics needs, including regular evening and weekend responsibilities and occasional holiday assignments.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in related/ relevant area or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

* Master's degree in sport management, athletics administration, business administration, higher education, recreation, or a related field.

* Experience working within NCAA Division II intercollegiate athletics.

* Experience with athletic facility management and collegiate game operations.

* Experience supervising student employees, part-time personnel, and/or game-day staff.

* Experience managing operating budgets, vendors, purchasing, or facility improvement projects.

* Working knowledge of NCAA Division II and conference championship and game-management requirements.

* Experience hosting NCAA or conference postseason competition.

* Experience developing emergency action plans, event-management plans, and facility operating procedures.

* Demonstrated commitment to providing an exceptional student-athlete and spectator experience.

Anticipated Hiring Range

$58,000-$62,0000
