Boule Technician

The Boule Technician is responsible for supporting the safe and efficient production of fused quartz products at the Highland Road manufacturing facility through operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of critical production equipment. This role monitors and controls manufacturing processes to ensure compliance with quality, safety, and production specifications while maintaining accurate production records and supporting inventory, shipping, and receiving activities. Working closely with Engineers, R&D, Quality, and Supply Chain teams, the Boule Technician contributes to root cause investigations, continuous improvement initiatives, and process optimization efforts. The position requires strong technical aptitude, mechanical troubleshooting skills, and the flexibility to work across shifts in a fast-paced manufacturing environment while upholding the highest standards of safety, quality, and operational excellence

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Champion a safety-first culture by consistently following all Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements while helping maintain a safe and compliant manufacturing environment.
  • Operate, inspect, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair specialized fused quartz production equipment to ensure reliable operation, maximize uptime, and support production goals.
  • Investigate equipment failures, process deviations, quality concerns, and customer-related issues by participating in root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions that improve reliability and product quality.
  • Perform mechanical maintenance and repairs on critical production systems, including refractory components, pumps, piping, valves, fittings, filters, and other process equipment essential to manufacturing operations.
  • Monitor and control key process parameters such as temperatures, pressures, flow rates, gauges, and instrumentation while following manufacturing process instructions (MPI), standard operating procedures, and engineering specifications to ensure consistent product quality.
  • Utilize required personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhere to all safety protocols while working in a high-temperature, industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Support all aspects of the production process by performing technical and operational responsibilities associated with the Production Technician role, contributing to efficient and uninterrupted manufacturing operations.
  • Safely operate forklifts, overhead lifting devices, and other material handling equipment to transport raw materials, work-in-process inventory, and finished products throughout the facility.
  • Develop expertise in fused quartz manufacturing processes, equipment systems, and operational procedures while continuously expanding technical knowledge and troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Collaborate closely with Engineering, Research & Development, Supply Chain, and Quality teams to support process improvements, equipment upgrades, product development initiatives, and operational excellence.
  • Provide training, guidance, and technical support to team members, helping build workforce capability and promoting knowledge sharing across the operation.
  • Maintain accurate and timely production, quality, maintenance, and operational records using established systems and documentation practices.
  • Assist with shipping and receiving activities, ensuring materials and products are handled, processed, and documented accurately.
  • Support inventory control activities, including material tracking, cycle counts, inventory reconciliation, and maintaining inventory accuracy.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work environment in accordance with 5S standards and good manufacturing practices.
  • Participate in Lean Manufacturing, continuous improvement, and operational excellence initiatives aimed at improving safety, quality, productivity, and equipment performance.
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned to support business objectives and plant operations.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Minimum of three years of manufacturing, industrial, mechanical, maintenance, or process operations experience required. Previous experience in quartz, glass, ceramics, refractory, or other high-temperature manufacturing environments is highly valued.
  • Demonstrated ability to work a flexible schedule, including rotating shifts, continuous operations, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed to support a 24/7 manufacturing environment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to learn complex manufacturing equipment, production processes, troubleshooting techniques, and operational procedures
  • Proficiency using computer-based business and manufacturing systems, including Microsoft Office applications, Outlook email, and enterprise resource planning (ERP) software such as SAP for documentation, reporting, and inventory transactions.
  • Ability to accurately follow written procedures, manufacturing process instructions, safety protocols, and technical specifications while maintaining attention to detail and product quality.
  • Comfortable working in a hands-on industrial manufacturing environment that includes exposure to high temperatures, specialized processing equipment, and electromagnetic fields.
  • Physically capable of performing the essential functions of the role, including lifting and carrying materials up to 50 pounds and pushing or pulling loads up to 500 pounds with appropriate equipment and assistance when necessary.
  • Ability to safely perform a full range of physical activities including standing for extended periods, walking, climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, squatting, twisting, and reaching throughout the workday.
  • Must be medically qualified and willing to wear required respiratory protection equipment, including tight-fitting respirators and Powered Air Purifying Respirators (PAPR), as dictated by job duties and safety requirements.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills with the ability to work effectively alongside production personnel, engineers, maintenance technicians, quality professionals, and cross-functional business teams.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, operational excellence, and continuous improvement in a manufacturing environment.
  • Must successfully complete all required pre-employment assessments and position-specific skills evaluations.

Our Boule Technician will earn an industry-leading hourly wage starting at $44.00 per hour with eligibility for overtime pay when applicable.
