Summary
Howard Community College ( HCC) is looking for experienced and passionate instructors to teach adaptive classes for our Inclusive Learning Programs for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities ( IDD). We are a continuing education program that allows adults of all ages with IDD to maintain or build on their skills and knowledge in a supportive and welcoming environment. This is an on-site, part-time adjunct position.

We are currently recruiting qualified applicants with a variety of skills and proven teaching ability for the following categories of classes:

  • Employability Soft Skills and Job-Specific Training
  • Social Skills
  • Life Skills
  • Basic Financial Literacy
  • Foundational Math and Number Sense
  • Foundational Literacy and Phonics Instruction

  • Culinary and Foodservice

Adjunct instructors are hired on an ongoing basis. We are in the process of expanding our programs and the number of teaching opportunities is anticipated to continue to rise. Please specify in your cover letter how your experience and skills could contribute to our program.

Essential Role Responsibilities

  • Prepare and teach age and developmentally appropriate lessons centered around practical, real-life topics.
  • Demonstrate patience, empathy, and a respect for differences.
  • Respond to issues professionally and with an understanding of how disabilities affect learning and behavior.
  • Collaborate with other instructors and administrators to maintain consistency throughout the program.

Minimum Education Required Bachelor's degree
Experience Required

  • Teaching experience, including experience planning lessons and developing curriculum for whole-group instruction
  • Experience working with adults with IDD, or a strong desire to learn best practices for working with this population
