TITLE:

Talent Development Specialist

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:

Senior Manager, HR Technology & Talent Development

BASIC FUNCTIONS:

Identify, develop, coordinate, and facilitate training programs and initiatives to support the ongoing professional development of American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) staff, collaborating with subject matter experts (SMEs) on the development of programs, reference materials, and communications. Provide support to AAP-wide projects and initiatives to ensure adult learning principles are incorporated into work activities, including performance management and development and compliance requirements.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Assist in assessing employee training and development needs through evaluating leadership and employee feedback, employee survey responses, and other relevant data.

2. Identify and recommend education programs and resources to strengthen employee competencies, address skill gaps, and align with organizational goals.

3. Identify and collaborate with internal subject matter experts (SMEs) and external partners to create and refine training solutions and educational content. Review training curriculum/materials and collaborate with training facilitators to customize content for accuracy and relevance to AAP needs.

4. Utilize various training methodologies, instructional techniques, and learning tools and technologies, to meet diverse learning needs and ensure maximum effectiveness of training programs.

5. Maintain AAP account and employee information on LinkedIn Learning, Traliant, and other external learning platforms. Coordinate and schedule new hire, annual, and ad hoc training; monitor and track completion rates to ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory training requirements. Upload AAP training courses to LinkedIn Learning training library.

6. Provide guidance to staff and supervisors on available learning resources and development opportunities. Work in partnership with supervisors to identify programs and resources that target specific needs of department/team staff.

7. Coordinate the development and delivery of training programs related to AAP policies, procedures, and systems.

8. Collaborate with HR staff to create and enhance new employee onboarding programs and resources and support HR team projects.

9. Support leadership and management development through coordination, facilitation, and administration of learning activities.

10. Administer annual staff Conflict of Interest and Disclosure survey. Track employee responses and report on any disclosures submitted by staff.

11. Assist with the administration of the annual performance review process, including configuring and managing review cycles in Culture Amp, creating training and reference guides, and supporting the development of performance goals related to individual performance improvement and career growth.

12. Assist with the administration of employee engagement surveys, including recommending questions, configuring surveys in Culture Amp, developing and analyzing reports, and leveraging feedback to enhance training programs and resources, and organizational development initiatives.

13. Monitor and evaluate effectiveness of training programs and facilitators by analyzing participant feedback, attending sessions, and other assessment methods.

14. Review and process tuition reimbursement and external professional development requests, ensuring compliance with AAP policies and IRS guidelines.

15. Maintain the professional development intranet pages, including a centralized library of training materials and learning resources for staff. Develop and disseminate visually appealing and informative staff communications to promote professional development courses and initiatives.

16. Assist with the development and management of the AAP professional development budget. Process invoices, monitor expenses, report on variances, and provide metrics as requested.

17. Collaborate with IT and other relevant staff to gather technical information on and learn the basic functionality of various AAP technical systems in order to develop job aids, presentations, and/or communications to support and develop end-user training.

18. Assist with the maintenance and administration of the HRIS, including maintaining employee data, timely processing and documenting of employment actions, and professional development data. Process and check bi-weekly payroll reports. Conduct routine system audits to ensure data integrity, system functionality, and compliance. Provide reports to senior leadership as requested.

19. Serve as back up for emergency broadcast platform.

20. Stay current on talent development trends, best practices, and emerging learning strategies to enhance employee development programs and support continuous staff learning.

21. Utilize AI and other innovative solutions to implement process improvements that increase operational efficiency and enhance service delivery.

22. Coordinate meeting logistics for all on-site training programs, including printing services, room reservations, a/v equipment, video conferencing, and food and beverage. Attend programs as necessary to assist presenters.

23. Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's degree in adult education, training and development or related discipline required, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience.

EXPERIENCE:

At least three years' related experience coordinating, developing, and facilitating live and virtual training programs, including employee training needs/skill gaps, establishing targeted learning solutions, and evaluating training programs for effectiveness. Experience with adult learning principles instructional design, onboarding programs, learning technologies, employee engagement, performance and leadership development, management training, and working in an association or nonprofit environment preferred.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS:

Excellent interpersonal, organizational, diplomacy, project management, presentation, critical thinking, and verbal/written communication skills required, as well as an understanding of adult learning principles. Must be able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, take initiative, work both independently and as part of a team, collaborate effectively with various internal and external constituents, and maintain a positive and cooperative team-oriented work environment with a commitment to fostering a culture where everyone feels valued and respected. Strong technical acumen essential with proficiency in MS Office; experience with virtual meeting platforms (e.g., WebEx. Teams, Zoom) and web site maintenance/document collaboration platforms (e.g., SharePoint); and the ability to learn and apply new technologies including the use of AI; experience with an LMS or HRIS (e.g., ADP Workforce Now) and performance management or employee engagement platforms (e.g., Culture Amp) preferred. Some evening/weekend work may be required.

A reasonable estimate of the current base pay range for this position is $82,182.66 - $86,748.48. Compensation decisions take into account a wide range of factors, including but not limited to relevant experience, skills, certifications, geographic location, business needs, and organizational policies. In addition to those factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer.
