We are looking for an organized, professional, strategic individual to join asa Fraud Analyst I. The Fraud Analyst I is responsible for analysis, investigation, reporting and resolution of various types of activity including, but not limited to fraud/forgery, identity theft, loan fraud, check fraud, plastic card fraud and other types of suspicious activity. The Fraud Analyst I is expected to make informed decisions within his or her scope of authority that reflect mature judgment and practical reasoning with emphasis placed on regulatory compliance, risk mitigation and fraud / loss prevention. The Fraud Analyst I is expected to possess thorough and practical knowledge of the FACT Act, the USA Patriot Act, Federal Regulation CC, Federal Regulations E and Z as well as applicable MasterCard Rules. The Fraud Analyst is expected to take appropriate actions to file required reports within specified time frames, mitigate risk, minimize loss and protect the interests of the credit union and its members.

What does GTE look for in a Fraud Analyst I?

Fraud Analyst Duties:

  • Independently performs in-depth analysis and investigation of member account activity, automated reports and or third-party software for the purposes of detecting and reporting suspicious activity and/or preventing fraud and losses.
  • Provide guidance on fraud-related matters to both internal and external customers.
  • Acts with authority to reverse transactions, refund fees, grant provisional and final credits, restrict member privileges and /or to close accounts, as applicable, in cases of suspected or confirmed fraudulent activity or suspicious activity that may pose a risk to the credit union or its members.
  • Supports all investigations by adding thorough and detailed notes to any and all related accounts. Notes must reflect a professional tone and must be factual statements. Notes must explain how and why an investigation was launched, detail the steps are taken to carry out the investigation (including details of the conversation or other communications with members, merchants, law enforcement, etc.), and give a summary upon conclusion.
  • Supports efforts to detect, prevent and/or minimize fraud losses by collecting and retaining data / analytics related to any / all investigations performed.
  • Processes plastic card fraud claims and ensures compliance with Federal Regulation E and/or Federal Regulation Z and/or MasterCard rules.
  • Reviews and identifies Common Points of Purchase (CPP) for card compromises and reports accordingly to Mastercard.
  • Supports internal and external customers, as needed, regarding fraudulent and/or suspicious activity through phone queue, email and other applicable communication channels.
  • Interfaces with law enforcement, government agencies, merchants, other financial institutions, etc. for the purposes of fraud detection and deterrence.
  • Prepares and submits criminal complaints to law enforcement, State Attorney's Office (SAO), and other entities, as applicable. Completes victim impact statements for SAO. May be called upon to testify as a witness in civil and criminal proceedings on behalf of GTE. Follows up on subpoenas and court updates.
  • Determines when/if a suspicious activity report (SAR) needs to be filed based on reporting guidelines and passes applicable information to BSA team so they may create the SAR.

Operational:

  • Ensures compliance with and the ability to effectively apply knowledge of the USA Patriot Act, FACT Act, Federal Regulation E, Federal Regulation CC and all other applicable federal, state or local laws and regulatory requirements. Thoroughly understands credit union and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Consistently demonstrates excellent and professional communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. Consistently communicates effectively with business partners, staff and members. Consistently demonstrates a commitment to supporting a team environment that is effective, efficient, positive and professional.
  • Maintains ongoing communication with supervisor/manager informing him/her of all pertinent problems, irregularities, developments and / or other important information that may have an impact upon the supervisor/manager's area of responsibility.
  • Ensures and maintains the highest level of confidentiality in all matters related to his or her job function(s).
  • Performs all other related duties as directed or assigned. Assists in special projects as requested.
  • Must demonstrate a functional knowledge of the Bank Secrecy Act in addition to other Federal laws, including but not limited to U.S. Patriot Act, Office of Foreign Assets & Control, Anti-Money Laundering, Right to Financial Privacy Act, and the Bank Bribery Act.

Required Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate Degree from an accredited college or university or a High School Diploma (or equivalent) with 1-3 years of applicable work experience in Fraud Prevention and/or Risk Management or combination of education and experience.
  • Project management experience desired.

Position Details:

  • Location: Downtown Tampa - GTE Headquarters
  • Department Hours: Monday- Friday (8:00 am to 5:00 pm)

Full-time hours required, with additional hours as necessary to accomplish objectives, goals, and projects.

The position is defined as hybrid in nature, (in-office, or remote) and may be changed at any time by management with appropriate notice, if possible.

Required for Remote/Hybrid Work:

  • A quiet workplace so you can focus on delivering excellent service to our members.
  • Some positions will require performance standards to be met to qualify for alternative work arrangements.
  • Required to have power and high-speed internet over 100MB (minimum).
  • Video capability (connection of 1.5 Mbps up and down recommended).
  • Candidates must provide and meet all technical requirements prior to the first day of training.
  • Hybrid candidates must live within driving distance of the office location and be able to regularly commute to and from the office location as needed.
