Tufts University: School of Engineering: Mechanical Engineering Location Medford MA Open Date Aug 24, 2026 Salary Range or Pay Grade $108,000 - $162,000 annual Description Tufts University Department of Mechanical Engineering is searching for a faculty member at the Assistant Professor level in sensors and embedded systems. Ideally, candidates' research will explore macro-scale applications related to acoustics, smart materials, medical devices, energy systems, or aerospace applications. Candidate research themes also have the potential to complement broader, interdisciplinary initiatives at the School of Engineering and university levels in sustainability, materials engineering, and artificial intelligence. The candidate should be capable of teaching graduate and undergraduate courses related to current curricula and new research directions. Qualifications General/Professor rank: A doctorate in engineering or a related field is required, and all candidates must have experience in electromechanical modeling, embedded systems, and data acquisition. The candidate should demonstrate a successful track record of research and mentoring with the potential to develop an internationally recognized, interdisciplinary research program. The department offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. programs, and thus, candidates must demonstrate excellence in teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
