A lab in the Stem Cell and Gene Therapy Program at Fred Hutch that studies hematopoietic stem cell biology and develops novel gene therapy and gene editing strategies is recruiting a Post Doctoral Research Fellow.



Responsibilities

The candidate will study and develop novel methods to genetically modify hematopoietic stem cells for genetic diseases like sickle cell disease, Fanconi anemia and others. The candidate will work closely with the PI and other senior members of the research team, as well as with external collaborators. They will be expected to work closely with diverse study personnel, and publish and present their work in both internal and external events.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    MD or PhD in a biology, genetics, immunology or related scientific field.
  • The individual must possess knowledge of advanced tissue assays, i.e. immunohistochemistry/in situ and multicolor flow cytometry.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in genetic diseases, and a background in stem cell biology or immunology is highly desired.
  • Experience is preferred in one or more of the following areas: hematopoietic stem cell cultures/model systems, in vivo studies, and/or immunohistochemistry.
  • Previous experience in gene therapy/gene editing, and/or molecular biology techniques e.g. quantitative PCR and cloning is desired, but not required.
  • To be successful in this position, the candidate must be highly motivated and able to work independently to design and execute experiments, possess a high level of initiative and attention to detail, and must also be able to multi-task and prioritize work at short notice. They must also be capable of working independently in a team environment. Candidates with excellent organizational skills and communication skills (written and oral) are encouraged to apply.

The annual base salary range for this position is from $80,172 to $95,014, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.

Although Fred Hutch is not sponsoring most H-1B visas at this time, candidates who already hold an H-1B sponsored by another organization and are currently in the U.S. may be eligible for this position.
