Biostatistics Operations Program Manager

Job Summary:

The Center for Innovative Design and Analysis (CIDA) has multiple openings for Biostatistics Operations Program Managers. These positions are intended for individuals with significant experience in biostatistics consultation, research collaboration, and operational leadership.

The Biostatistics Operations Program Manager serves a key leadership role in supporting CIDA's mission to provide high-quality biostatistics, study design, and quantitative research services across the CU Anschutz Medical Campus. This position oversees project intake and triage processes, staffing coordination, resource planning, operational reporting, process improvement initiatives, and quality and service monitoring.

Responsibilities include implementing and maintaining standardized workflows to support consulting requests, project management activities, consulting agreements, and budget development. The role may also support large collaborative partnerships by coordinating resources, managing project portfolios, and supervising biostatisticians engaged in collaborative research.

The Biostatistics Operations Program Manager works closely with Associate Directors, faculty, research scientists, biostatisticians, analysts, project managers, trainees, and campus collaborators to ensure CIDA's operational model promotes team science, timely project delivery, financial stewardship, and an exceptional client and collaborator experience.

Key Responsibilities:

* Lead and continuously improve operational systems for CIDA's biostatistics and consulting (or collaborative agreement) research portfolio, including project intake, scoping, triage, assignment, tracking, and closeout processes.

* Develop and manage workflows that align investigator needs with appropriate methodological expertise, staff availability, project timelines, and strategic priorities.

* Coordinate staffing plans across faculty, senior research scientists, statisticians, analysts, and trainees to support efficient utilization of effort and high-quality project delivery.

* Partner with CIDA leadership to implement standard operating procedures, service models, and performance expectations for biostatistics work in their program.

* Create and maintain dashboards, reports, and operational metrics related to demand, turnaround time, staffing, utilization, effort allocation, collaborator satisfaction, and portfolio composition.

* Support financial and administrative operations by coordinating project setup, effort planning, billing/support documentation, budget development inputs, and monitoring of programmatic activities.

* Identify operational bottlenecks and lead process improvement initiatives to improve efficiency, transparency, scalability, and user experience.

* Facilitate communication among faculty, staff, and campus collaborators regarding project status, scope, timelines, priorities, and operational policies.

* Help build and maintain training resources, onboarding materials, templates, and quality frameworks that promote consistency in analytic workflows and collaborative practices.

Work Location:

Hybrid and Remote- as this posting is for multiple openings the role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week on campus and the possibility to work remotely, if the applicant is already an approved remote CU employee and must be in the United States.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

* Master of Science (MS) in Biostatistics or an equivalent quantitative field from an accredited institution.

* Qualifications sufficient for appointment at the Senior Research Scientist level at the University of Colorado.

* 5 years of experience in collaborative biostatistics, quantitative research operations, academic research administration, or closely related program leadership in a health sciences, public health, or clinical research setting.

* Demonstrated experience coordinating or managing complex research portfolios, analytic teams, or service/program operations involving multiple stakeholders and competing timelines.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Demonstrated record of effective communication, team leadership, and partnership with faculty or scientific leadership.

* Experience in an academic medical center, CTSA environment, school of public health, or comparable interdisciplinary research enterprise.

* Experience overseeing intake, triage, staffing, utilization, or quality processes for collaborative methodology or analytic support units.

* Experience with effort management, budgeting inputs, grants/contracts support, or other operational components of research programs.

* Record of scholarly collaboration, co-authorship, methods contribution, and/or leadership in quantitative research initiatives.

* Experience mentoring junior staff, analysts, or early-career scientists.

* Facility with analytic or programming environments commonly used in biostatistics or research operations (e.g., R, SAS, Python, REDCap, project tracking/reporting systems).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

* Advanced training in biostatistics, statistics, epidemiology, quantitative clinical research, or a closely related discipline, with the ability to understand and manage complex collaborative biostatistics workflows.

* Demonstrated leadership in research operations, program management, collaborative science administration, or analytic team management in an academic health, public health, or clinical research environment.

* Strong understanding of biostatistical collaboration across the research lifecycle, including study design, analysis planning, protocol development, grant support, regulatory considerations, data analysis, and dissemination.

* Ability to translate strategic goals into operational processes, staffing plans, clear expectations, and measurable outcomes.

* Experience managing multiple concurrent projects and priorities in a complex, matrixed environment with diverse stakeholders.

* Strong organizational, problem-solving, and process improvement skills, with close attention to detail and follow-through.

* Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, including the ability to work effectively with faculty investigators, staff, trainees, and institutional partners.

* Ability to use data to inform operational decision-making and continuous improvement.

* Experience with project management systems, operational reporting, and common research/analytic workflows.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

$5,000 stipend along with $19,400-21,600 for a 0.2 FTE salary support plus benefits, up to the educational salary cap of $225,000

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
