Senior Project Scheduler Location:Houston, TX Pay:$75.00 - $80.00 per hour 26-10074 Job Summary The Senior Project Scheduler is responsible for developing, maintaining, and communicating project schedules throughout proposal, engineering, construction, and commissioning phases of EPC projects. This role establishes baseline schedules, monitors progress, analyzes critical paths and schedule variances, and develops mitigation and recovery strategies to support successful project execution. The position works closely with clients, engineering, procurement, construction, operations, subcontractors, and project management teams while providing scheduling leadership and guidance to junior team members. Job Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and communicate project schedules in accordance with established scheduling procedures.
- Provide project teams with schedule information needed to establish time objectives and control project execution.
- Coordinate client, engineering, operations, procurement, construction, and other project interfaces to support timely information flow.
- Participate in proposal strategy and develop preliminary and framework schedules.
- Review activity durations, sequencing, constructability, and execution assumptions.
- Prepare the Basis of Schedule and Project Schedule Execution Plan.
- Establish and maintain baseline progress schedules using appropriate templates and reference projects.
- Develop and maintain WBS structures, activity codes, layouts, resources, manhours, quantities, and cost information.
- Develop baseline progress curves and progress measurement systems using early and late finish dates.
- Prepare progress measurement tables for deliverables, quantities, and installed work.
- Present and validate planning assumptions, schedule basis, and execution strategies with project stakeholders.
- Collect and validate progress information from clients, engineering, operations, suppliers, subcontractors, and third-party organizations.
- Prepare forecast schedules based on actual progress and anticipated project developments.
- Track internal and external milestones against contractual requirements, project targets, and previous forecasts.
- Update progress curves using earned and remaining forecast values.
- Analyze critical paths, schedule variances, progress trends, resource allocation, and potential impacts to project completion.
- Develop and implement mitigation, recovery, and corrective strategies for schedule risks and delays.
- Communicate schedule status and analysis through schedule layouts, written reports, presentations, and project briefings.
- Support weekly and monthly project reporting.
- Maintain schedule history and baseline records using appropriate scheduling controls.
- Update the Basis of Schedule to document mitigation actions and changes.
- Support site managers and subcontractor managers with construction planning and scheduling.
- Perform quantity takeoffs and evaluate local production rates to support budgeted manhour estimates.
- Review subcontractor schedules for compliance with project specifications, contractual requirements, and required dates.
- Challenge subcontractor schedules and integrate approved schedules and logic ties into the master project schedule.
- Monitor jobsite activities and evaluate physical progress.
- Review subcontractor schedule updates for accuracy and alignment with approved plans.
- Analyze subcontractor delay claims and associated mitigation or recovery plans.
- Incorporate approved contract changes into the master project schedule.
- Develop schedule scenarios and what-if analyses to support project decisions.
- Maintain planning-related as-built documentation and lessons learned for benchmarking and project handover.
- Lead scheduling activities on large projects as assigned.
- Provide guidance, training, and knowledge sharing to junior scheduling team members.
- Contribute to scheduling procedures, templates, reporting tools, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Job Requirements
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in EPC project scheduling.
- Proven experience developing and managing schedules for large-scale projects.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proficiency with Primavera P6, including multi-file group projects.
- Experience with physical progress and earned value measurement systems.
- Understanding of Engineering, Procurement, and Construction workflows.
- Ability to read and understand plot plans, PFDs, P&IDs, and one-line diagrams.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and Microsoft Outlook.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to balance strategic planning with detailed execution.
- Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to lead, influence, and collaborate effectively without formal authority.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities while meeting deadlines.
- Strong business partnering and stakeholder management skills.
- Flexibility to travel based on project requirements.
- Ability to work in office and onsite construction environments as project phases require.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting large-scale EPC projects.
- Experience working directly with construction contractors and subcontractors.
- Experience with schedule delay analysis, recovery planning, and what-if scenario development.
- Experience with Power BI or similar project reporting and visualization tools.
- Experience leading scheduling teams or serving as a scheduling team lead.
