The Pittsburgh office of SmithGroup is looking for Electrical Engineering undergraduate students for a full-time cooperative education position within our Power, Utilities and Infrastructure Team. The goal of the co-op program is for students to complete three full-time work rotations that alternate with academic semesters, providing progressive hands-on engineering experience in electrical infrastructure systems while working toward their degree.

Working with us, you will:



  • Work on integrated architecture and engineering project design teams.





  • Assist in the design of power, lighting, or other special systems in Revit 3D modeling software.





  • Perform project specific calculations such as load calculations and lighting calculations.





  • Participate in power system studies using SKM software.





  • Assist in equipment sizing and selection.





  • Assist with system development studies and planning for medium voltage campus power systems.





  • Participate in design meetings.





  • Receive mentorship from experienced engineers.





  • Visit a construction site(s) and/or completed project sites.





  • Responsibilities will continually increase with successive rotations.



An ideal candidate has:



  • Completed at least their sophomore year in an accredited electrical engineering program by the time of the first rotation.





  • Experience with AutoCAD, Revit and the Microsoft Office Suite.

The anticipated hourly rate for this position $20.70 - $23.55 per hour, at the time of posting. You are eligible to receive overtime pay for hours worked beyond 40 in a work week.
