Commercial Counsel

Your Role

Aptiv is seeking a Commercial Counsel to provide legal support primarily for the company's commercial activities in the United States, while also supporting cross-border transactions, global customer and supplier relationships, and other international matters. This is a unique opportunity to build strong business partnerships, navigate sophisticated commercial matters, and deliver practical legal solutions that protect Aptiv's interests and advance its commercial objectives.

You will serve as a trusted partner to leaders across Sales, Purchasing, Finance, Engineering, Quality, and other support functions, providing clear, business-focused advice while managing legal and commercial risk in a fast-paced global environment.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Serve as a primary legal contact for assigned U.S. businesses and functions, providing practical counsel on commercial and general legal matters.
• Draft, review, advise on, and negotiate complex agreements with customers, suppliers, and other third parties, including U.S., cross-border, and global commercial transactions.
• Develop contracting and negotiation strategies, templates, playbooks, and practical legal guidance that maximize commercial value, protect Aptiv's interests, and appropriately allocate risk.
• Identify and anticipate legal and commercial risks, develop practical mitigation strategies, and support the resolution of contract, warranty, pricing, quality, supply, and other commercial disputes.
• Partner with leaders across Sales, Purchasing, Finance, Engineering, Quality, and other functions, while collaborating with regional legal teams and corporate specialists on global matters.
• Coordinate legal support for litigation, compliance, investigations, intellectual property, product safety, corporate governance, and other specialty matters, including managing external counsel when appropriate.
• Serve as a compliance champion by supporting investigations, training, and related initiatives, and delivering guidance on contracting, ethics, compliance, and other legal risks.
• Lead U.S. commercial matters independently while contributing to global legal initiatives, knowledge sharing, best practices, and a coordinated One Aptiv approach.

Your Background

• Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school and active membership in good standing in at least one U.S. state bar.
• 5+ years of relevant legal experience advising multinational organizations on sophisticated commercial matters and transactions, gained at a leading law firm, corporate legal department, or a combination of both.
• Strong experience drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements under U.S. law, including experience supporting cross-border or international commercial matters.
• Demonstrated ability to apply legal expertise with sound judgment, business acumen, and a practical commercial perspective while managing multiple complex matters, priorities, and stakeholder expectations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, relationship-building, influencing, critical-thinking, problem-solving, and project-management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across regions, functions, and time zones.
• Professional presence, integrity, and confidence to independently lead U.S. matters and constructively challenge decisions or actions when required.
• Experience in automotive, manufacturing, technology, or another global industrial environment is preferred; comfort using Microsoft Office applications, AI tools, and legal technology platforms is also valued.
