KPMG is currently seeking a Director, Harness Engineer to join our Clients, Technology & Innovation (CT&I) organization.

Responsibilities:
  • Partner with leadership to set overall technical standards and direction; architect and establish "the harness" as the common, reusable core across all EdgeCo product teams
  • Maintain elite, active coding practices by writing and shipping production-grade code, while personally owning and resolving the most complex production problems
  • Expand reusable assets, tools, and developer accelerators, championing cutting-edge tools (such as Claude Code, Cursor, and Lovable) where permitted to help every product pod ship faster
  • Establish and champion rigorous production standards, including context engineering, evaluation frameworks (golden datasets, rubrics, trace-based scoring in CI), operational readiness, and secure, observable, and auditable code
  • Facilitate strategic working sessions with senior executives Chief Information Officer (CIO), Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and engineers, building trust by communicating technical risks, architectural trade-offs, and progress with absolute transparency
  • Mentor and guide engineers across multiple product teams through technical leadership; make critical "build versus integrate" decisions around industry standards (for example, Model Context Protocol) and directly support customer deployments to translate feedback into product improvements
  • Act with integrity, professionalism, and personal responsibility to uphold KPMG's respectful and courteous work environment
Qualifications:
  • Minimum ten years of recent, hands-on software engineering experience shipping secure, end-to-end production software with a focus on data, ML, and AI-native applications; candidates must write and ship production code today
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a STEM field or equivalent practical experience
  • Deep, practical familiarity with modern AI coding harnesses, agentic tooling, and the open-source LLM ecosystem (for example, Claude, Cursor, agent frameworks); direct experience engineering agent harnesses or working with tool integration standards like the Model Context Protocol is highly preferred
  • Extensive experience hardening, scaling, and operating live systems in complex cloud production environments (Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud (GCP), supported by a product-oriented, startup-velocity mindset (founder or early-stage startup experience is a strong plus)
  • Proven track record of owning the architecture of major production systems and defining standards adopted by other engineers; strong capability to mentor technical teams without requiring or expecting formal people management
  • Innate ability to translate highly technical concepts to both impatient executives (CIO, CISO, CFO) and skeptical engineers; excellent customer-facing skills with the ability to facilitate collaborative sessions and align diverse stakeholders
  • Verifiable code portfolio, GitHub repository, or structured walk-through of a previously shipped system
  • Ability to travel domestically as needed
