In the role of Highway Intern, we'll count on you to:
* Provide project engineering/project delivery support with a focus on transportation projects and public transportation clients throughout the Southern California Region * Anticipated work tasks may include: Work on a team with other project engineers on the detailed design of urban and rural roadway projects. * Provide assistance with the creation and submission of technical reports, specifications and calculations. * Offer real-world experience on exciting projects * Connect with recent college graduates and our company leaders through mentoring and young professional programs * Apply standard engineering techniques and procedures * Perform assignments under the direct supervision of a professional or Project Manager Preferred Qualifications
* Prefer 2 years completed toward degree with a minimum of 3.0 GPA * Demonstrated knowledge of software packages related to field of study/industry * Experience with MicroStation, InRoads, AutoCAD and Civil 3D preferred * An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must * Excellent oral and written communication skills * Preference will be given to local candidates The internship program is designed to support young professionals as they explore their future career paths. We aim to grow interns to transition into full-time roles after graduation. The program is open only to students, and our internships are a year-round commitment while the student is in school, similar to a part-time job. We do not offer seasonal internships, and remote work is not allowed. All work is performed in an HDR office and supervised by a licensed professional engineer. Typically, interns work 16-20 hours per week, with the flexibility to reduce their hours during school commitments or increase their hours during breaks and summer vacation. Required Qualifications
